CHAPTER III: RESEARCH METHOLOGY

Materials : Checklist and questionnaire for interview

Methods: Descriptive/Quantitative Method

Experimental/ Research Design:

This research is descriptive or quantitative because it

tries to analyze and interpret the data collected that it could

help to describe and know the factors behind to those non-

readers of Lowag Elementary School. It also aimed to correlate

the sex, learning style and family background of the students.

Prior to the implementation of the study, the non-reader

pupils answered the questionnaire and checklist provided by the

researcher answered the interview as well. Same with their

respective teachers and parents will be given also a checklist

and questionnaire to answer.

Locale of the Study.

This study was conducted at Lowag Elem. School, Brgy.

Locotan, Kabankalan City. The school is located at the

uppermost Brgy.of Kabankalan City. The School had been serving

the community almost 20 yrs.

present investigation. Prior to be intervention, the students,

parents, and teachers were given the 1st checklist that based

on the questionnaire. It served as their pre-test. After one

week, they took the same checklist that served as the post-

test. Analysis and interpretation of results covered another

one week more until the completion of this research.

Data Collection Procedures.

The instrument is a self-made to measure the effectivity

of interview and the checklist given by the reseacher. Since it

is self-made, it underwent validation of the question if it is

valid and reliable to the expert people.

To meet the objectives, the researcher administered pre-

test by using checklist and questionnaire for interview about

their sex, learning style, family background or family economic

status and also the teaching stategy of a teacher

The data collected were analyzed using mean, standard

deviation, and T-test statistics was used to test the null

hypothesis at 0.05 alpha or level of significance.

A mean of 3.50-4.49 was accepted as strongly agree, 2.50-2.49

was accepted as agree while 1.50-2.49 was accepted as disagree

and 0.05-1.49 showed strongly disagree.

Data Analysis:

As it is descriptive research question were answered by

the aid of appropriate statistical tools.

For Problem 1, frequency and percentage distribution were used.

For Problem 2, mean was used to answer the research question

and measure the extent result of checklist given to the

students, parents, and advisers of every grade level of Lowag

Elem. School. The following ranges were used to interpret the

following factors to be considered that could affect the

reading skills and learning performance of the pupils.

For Problem 3, T-test and ANOVA were used to determine the

significant difference of the checklist given to the students,

teachers, and parents when it grouped according to sex,

learning styles, and family background of a non-reader.

For Problem 4, T-test was used to determine the significant
