Course Description:
This course is for students who have successfully completed Algebra I in the 7th or 8th Grades.
Honors Geometry provides students with instruction in the logical reasoning used for drawing correct
conclusions from definitions, postulates, corollaries, and theorems. A goal of this course is to prepare and
accelerate students so they may have an opportunity to study mathematics at a collegiate level their junior
and/or senior years.

Text: Larson, Geometry

 Students should mark their name and the present condition of their text in the front of
their book.
 Students should cover their book
 Book should be returned in June in the same condition in which it was received.
 Students will be charged at the end of the year for abuse, neglect, or loss of their text (so
keep track of your book!)

Course Schedule
Semester One Semester Two

2. Reasoning and Proof 7. Right Triangles and Trigonometry
3. Parallel and Perpendicular Lines 8. Quadrilaterals
4. Congruent Triangles 9. Properties of Circles
5. Relationships within Triangles 10. Measurement of Figures and Solids

Materials
Students should come prepared with all of the following materials necessary for class each day:
Homework Notebook (only acceptable writing utensil for exams)
Pencil
Textbook (a limited amount Pen/Highlighter Graphing Calculator (TI-84 Plus
will be available in class for use.) graphing calculator recommended)
Attendance
The greatest tool each student has towards being successful in math is attendance. The days you
miss break the learning sequence and hurt you. Math is a culminating subject where one day builds on the
next and so on. Thus, material missed may lead to math becoming unnecessarily difficult.
If you must be absent, it is your responsibility to obtain missed assignments/content. Use the
following steps as an outline for handling make-up work:
1. Check Make-up Assignment Board for missed tests/quizzes.
Schedule a time with Miss Myers to complete the assignment.
Students will have one cycle to make-up the missed assignments without penalty.
After one cycle, quizzes will receive a 0%, tests will lose 10% per day until reaching a
maximum of 50%.
2. Check class folder in the Absentee Handouts Bin for missed worksheets, projects, handouts. etc.
Students will have the same number of days as their absence (as outlined in the
student handbook) to complete the missed assignments for full credit.
After the number of days of the absence, assignments will be reduced each day until
reaching a maximum of 50%.
3. Copy missed notes from any of the following:
The class binder, a responsible classmate, or Miss Myers’ website
www.northernpbmath.weebly.com
4. Check Chapter Assignment Sheet for the homework assignment that was given on the day of
your absence.
5. Show Miss Myers the homework that was due on the day of your absence.
6. Get a pass for Math Lab to get additional help with notes, homework questions, etc. as necessary.
Grading: A 93-100% B 85-92% C 77-84% D 70-76% F below 70%
Sapphire Grade Book Codes:
 0 – Assignment is calculated as a zero and can no longer be turned in for credit.
 M – Assignment is “missing” (whether from absence or a failure to complete it) and
may still be turned in for credit. This score is calculated as a “zero” until student
turns in the assignment.
 C – Assignment has been “collected” but not yet graded. No score is attributed to the
“C” code, so the student’s final grade will not be affected until the actual score is
keyed into the gradebook.
 Ex – Assignment is “exempt/excused” and will not count against the student’s grade.

Homework: (3 pts each)

 Homework will be checked periodically for completion. Students should always
show all work. Only problems with complete work will receive full credit.
 Homework may be collected periodically for accuracy. Collected assignments
may receive more than 3 pts.
 Homework may be turned in late up until one week before the end of the
marking period. Homework turned in one day late will receive a 2 out of 3.
Homework turned in two days late or later will receive a 1 out of 3.
Quizzes: (25 pts each)
 Students must use a pencil on all quizzes. The use of any other writing utensil
will result in a 10% deduction on the assignment.
 Students may NOT share calculators on any quiz. Students may NOT use their
phone as a calculator on a quiz.
 Failing quiz grades may be corrected to receive a passing score. Quiz
corrections must be turned in within one cycle to receive additional credit.
Tests: (50 – 100 pts each)
 Students must use a pencil on all tests. The use of any other writing utensil will
result in a 10% deduction on the assignment.
 Students may NOT share calculators on any test. Students may NOT use their
phone as a calculator on a quiz.
Notebook Quiz: (30 pts each)
 Notebook quizzes will take place at the end of each chapter.
 Students should accurately complete, keep, and organize all notes, homework
assignments, and handouts in order to receive full credit. Assignments must be
completed and corrected.
Other/Projects
Final Exam
 Final exam will account for 10% of the final grade.
 Anyone who maintains an A average for quarters 1 – 4 will be exempt from the
final exam

Classroom Rules and Expectations

 Students should be in their seat and prepared  Students should use their class time wisely and

includes: until the bell rings at the end of the period.
having homework out to be checked
 Students will not distract others from learning.
having paper, pencil, calculator out to
begin the warm-up problems  Students are expected to do math work in the
having note packets out to begin note- math classroom. Students will not be
taking permitted to work on other assignments during
if returning from an absence, copying class without first obtaining permission. Any
notes and picking up handouts from the student who chooses to ignore this rule will
previous day(s). have their non-math related assignment
confiscated.
I have read the Keystone Honor’s Geometry syllabus.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I would like to incorporate several web-based resources into this course, but I need to
know my students’ accessibilities. Please answer each of the following questions so that I
may judge which projects are applicable for students this year.

Thank you,
Miss Myers
