METHODOLOGY

This chapter provides an overview of the research method that will be followed in

conducting the study. It provides data of the respondents-who and how are they going to

be sampled-the criteria for incorporation in the study. The information sources in the data

collection and the processes used in this research are included. Lastly, the researchers

tackled the statistical treatment that will be used in analyzing the data.

Research Design

The researchers will use a developmental type of research in conducting the

study. The developmental research is the systematic study of designing, developing and

evaluating instructional programs, processes, and products that must meet the criteria of

internal consistency and effectiveness.

Research Method

The researchers will follow the Define-Measure-Analyze-Design-Verify

(DMADV) method in developing the system in order achieve the objectives of the study.

Define Phase

In this phase, the current catalogue for coffees in NCRDEC will be observed.

With these, the researchers will identify the problems and possible improvements for the

system.
Measure Phase

The measure phase will involve the use of different problem solving tools and

survey questionnaires as an instrument in gathering all the data needed in conducting the

study. when the researchers identified the problems encountered with the present system.

The qualitative data gathered will be turned into quantitative data with the use of Pareto

Analysis.

Analyze Phase

In this phase the gathered data will be analyzed by the researchers. The result of

the problem analyzation will be the basis for the user requirements to achieve the

technical requirements of the system with the use of several rating scales.

Design Phase

In this phase, the researchers will use the information from the analyze phase in

the development process of the coffee morphological catalogue. The system will be

developed in line with the users’ needs and requirements.

Verify Phase

This phase is the final phase of the DMADV Methodology. In this phase, once the

system is already developed, the researchers will prepare to start the system evaluation

and usability testing. The researchers will conduct survey to the intended participants to

see if the system meet its intended purpose.

Sources of Data

The primary source of data is the record of the coffee plants in NCRDEC. The

secondary sources of data are books, articles, journals, and other related studies.

Participants of the study.

The visitors and employees of the National Coffee Research Development and

Extension Center (NCRDEC) will be the participants of the study. The survey

questionnaires will be given to the respondents.

Sampling Technique

The researchers will use purposive sampling. It is a non-probability sample that is

selected based on characteristics of a population and the objective of the study. Since the

users of the system are the employees and visitors of NCRDEC, (insert ilang people ang

isusurvey) will be surveyed.

Data Gathering Procedure

The data gathering procedure in research methodology is the most significant part.

The researchers cannot come up with any conclusion without plans and procedures. The

researchers will personally

Data of Coffee Trees. The data of the coffee trees will be obtained from the National

Coffee Research Development and Extension Center (NCRDEC) located in Cavite State

University will be sorted out and it will serve as the information to be encoded in the

system.
Preliminary Data Collection. The researchers will conduct a preliminary survey for the

present system. With this, the researchers will identify the problems encountered in using

the present system for the coffee tree information and its possible points for

improvement. The researcher will use pareto analysis in analyzing the data that will be

collected. The analyzed data will serve as the technical requirements for the system

development.

INSERT Data Encoding AND FLOW CHART

Assessment of the System. The system will be assessed in this process. The efficiency

and effectivity of the system will be assessed in this part. Also, the system will be tested

if it meet its intended function. In addition, the developed system will be available and

accessible in NCRDEC for the use of the visitors and employees. The errors,

malfunctions and inaccuracies of the system will be also determined. In this manner,

corrections and revisions will be done for the betterment of the system.

Research Instrument

In this study the researchers will use Visual Studio, an integrated development

environment (IDE) used to create and develop the graphical user interface of the system.

With this the researcher will be able to achieve a user-friendly interface and build the

structure of the system.

C# Language developed by Microsoft will be also used by the researchers to

develop desktop application of the system and it will also serve as the backbone. The C#

Language will be the key to all the functions of the system being developed
The researchers will use My Structure Query Language (MyQSL), a relational

database that is used to store and retrieve data. MySQL will be the main repository of the

data of the system being developed.

Moreover, the researchers will use Adobe Photoshop by Adobe. This software

will be used to edit and enhance the photos. This will help in making the photos be more

presentable in the catalogue.

In the development of the system, the hardware plays a vital role. It will be the

key to run the application. The researchers will use 500GB hard drive disk as the storage,

2GB random access memory (RAM), Intel Celeron N3050 as the processor and windows

10 as the operating system.

Statistical Treatment of Data

The researchers will treat the data based on the objectives of the study. In order to

obtain adequate and reliable results, the researchers will use the proper statistical tool.

Stated below are the formulas that the researchers are going to utilize.

Mean:

Σx
𝜇=
N

Where:

𝜇 = mean

x = individual data points

N = sample size

Percentage (%):
𝑓
P= × 100
N

Where:

P = percentage

f = frequency

N = sample size
