Recent Scenario:
The recent Indian logistics sector comprise of inbound and outbound segments of
the manufacturing and service supply chains. Of late, the logistics infrastructure
has gained a lot of attention both from business industry as well as policy
makers. The role of managing this infrastructure, to effectively compete has been
slightly under-emphasized. Inadequate logistics infrastructure has an effect of
creating bottlenecks in the growth of an economy. The logistics management
regimen has the capability of overcoming the disadvantages of the infrastructure
in the short run while providing cutting edge competitiveness in the long term.
Future prospects:
The logistics firms are moving from traditional setup to the integration of IT
and technology to their operations to reduce the costs incurred as well as to
meet the services demands. The growth of the Indian logistics sector depends
upon its soft infrastructure like education, training and policy framework as
much as the hard infrastructure.
To support India’s fast paced economy growth of logistics industry is very
essential. It is estimated that the Indian logistics industry will continue to show
robust growth of 10-15% annually, leading the pace of growth of the economy
at large.
The global economic outlook, indeed that of India is expected to significantly
improve as India Inc begins to tackle the economic downturn. With a new
government many policies are expected to be implemented which will give a
fresh impetus to Indian’s growth engine particularly in the corporate and SME
sector which in turn will expand demand for the logistics sector.
With the implementation of GST, the logistics companies, which are currently
forced to set up many small warehouse across multiple cities can set up just a
few, big warehouse region wise and can follow the hub-and-spoke model for
freight movement from the warehouse to the different manufacturing plants,
wholesale outlets, retail outlets and various POS. This growth is backed by the
boom in the ecommerce sector and expansionary policies of the FMCG firms.
This has increased the service geography of the logistics firms but they also
have to meet the demands of quick delivery and tight service level
agreements. The industry has moved from being just a service provider to the
position which provides end to end supply chain solutions to their customers.
Thus, all this paved the way for further growth of logistics and warehousing
industry in coming years.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The job which I was given there was of marketing and sales where
in I was given the task that I have to go the customers of Om
logistics because it was B2B business so I have to go to those
customers and then I tell about the company performance and
what are the various service Om group provides and then tell them
about our logistics service and tell what are the various rates and
freight which was charged on the basis of the type of the customer
they were.
I have to report at 9:30 am at the office and then I have to report in
marketing department from there I have to go to the customers
with some of my seniors who were working there from long period
and have to learn with them that how to deal the customers the
way of talking and the way of giving their answer which could
impress the party.
My job was to make the proper record of all the parties and the
rate which was given to them for joining our logistics service
As I was in marketing department I was told about the various
strategy of working in the market where any work was after
meeting all the parties I have to sit in the computer band make all
the record of what was my whole day schedule, how many parties I
met today and how to do the entry on the oracle software.

EXPERIENCE LEARNING
EXPERIENCE GAINED
Logistics is one of the most important career fields in the world. Without
planning and execution of the distribution of the resource, society as we know it
would cause to function and food shortage would cause chaos around the world.
Every company uses logistics even through full time logistics managers may not
be employed.
The work of the logistics begins with bringing in the supplies and raw materials
necessary for a business organization to operate. In bound logistics are then used
in conjunction with outbound logistics to distribute products or services where
they are in demand.
THE MOST IMPORTANT LEARNING WHICH I LEARN IS THAT WHEN YOU VISIT TO ANY
TO DAY LIFE
HOW TO WORK HAPPILY IN ALL THE TOUGH SITUATION AND DO NOT TAKE ANY
HOW TO TRACK THE CONSINGMENT AND TALK TO THE VARIOUS PEOPLE ABOUT OUR
LOT.
OBEY WHAT OU SENIORS SAY AND DO THE WORK AS THEY GUIDE YOU.
BEFORE STARTING ANY WORK LEARN FROM THE ROOT BECAUSE IT WILL GIVE YOU
My thought about Om logistics is that while I working in this company the people
who were working here were not happy and I found that many employee where
in search of a new job because which I got to know is that there is lot of politics
which was involved in company.
As in Om logistics everything was manual the labours did not have better
machines for working and the manual machines which was available did not work
properly and there was many problem which they occur while loading and
unloading and the various situation which they face as the regular part time
everyday.
The Om logistics in my view did not have a good working condition of working and
the people with whom I was working was very corporative and helped us a lot and
provided us important information we needed.
3. Fans and lights in working area are not working which should be
improved.
5. The most important suggestion is that the people who stay in the
warehouse do not have good facility of living they face many
problems such as food facility is not ggod and all types of people stay
at the same place.

SECTION B
ROLE OF OPERATION IN MARKETING A T OM LOGISTICS
Page 38 of 72
Operations and Logistics are frequently viewed as secondary functions that can be
handled by someone else. However, in reality, they present a huge opportunity
for a business to become more efficient and differentiate itself.
The process starts with determining key issues, understanding tradeoffos and
developing goals and standards:
Consider the 80-20 rule. Many operations experts have shown that 80% of
sales are derived from 20% of your products or services. However, suppliers
continue to proliferate styles, colors, size, models, and features presumably to
better serve more customers and provide more features presumably to better
serve more customers and provide more features. A Harvard Business Review
article analyzed numerous business examples and found that business seldom
increase profits by increasing offering beyond a certain point. We waste time,
money, and frequently add confusion by adding too much complexity.
To better manage your inventory and improve delivery to your customers, the
following are critical steps:
This plan details each product or stock keeping unit (SKU) in a description. It
allows both buyers and sellers to understand the parameters and limitations of
program.
The description then requires detailed spec sheets that becomes a bill of
materials for suppliers and shippers. In a service business this would be a
description of training, services and requirements for every function. The spec
sheet will tell the scope of the project and expertise necessary to carry out the
project. The most important aspect of the spec sheets is to be very detailed to
ensure all components are accounted for so you don’t miss a component and
your costs are accurate.
Supply chain and timing consideration can be critical performance and cost saving
factors. There are multiple considerations in making distribution decisions such as
shipping and receiving points, lot sizes and shipping quantities, reducing lead
times, using similar part components, scheduling components to reduce bottle
necks, shipping warehouse charges. Optimizing these factors can improve service
and reduce inventory shortages, requirements and risk. The decision you make
must balance customer fulfillment needs, inventory risk, terms, ownership, and
replacement.
All of these functions are essential to excellent service. Service goals start with a
total commitment to providing consumers with a great quality product and
making the experience enjoyable. Remember:
“Let’s face it, anyone can put product in a store on pictures on the internet and
attempt to sell it. It is difference in service that frequently differentiates.”
Open systems have been around for a long time but have become the norm
for success. Open systems, in general, reject bureaucracy, authority, hierarchy,
and closed decision processes. An open system is a management system that
is capable of self-maintenance on the basis of throughout of resources from
the environment. Open system encourage participation, diversity, new rules
and to some extent chaos.
LITERATURE OVERVIEW
Fourth- party logistics providers and information system are the key words for
this paper. The concept of fourth-party logistics provider is closely related to
logistics services and easily confused with the third-party logistics provider.
Hence, the reviewed literature introduces four subjects: logistics services, third
party logistics, fourth-party logistics, and advanced information system.
Apart from the abundant service functions, the relationship between clients and
logistics service providers evolved from tactic solution of cost reduction to
strategic alliance. According to Gronroos (2000), the competition nowadays is
focused more the 11 basis of services not on the basis of physical products. As the
cost and efficiency of logistics services grow to have greater impact on economic
activities, outsourcing the services to another independent company becomes a
popular choice. Third & fourth-party logistics providers are businesses of which
offering that kind of help. Since third party logistics is more familiar concept, the
review would start by introducing it first.
The figures include that outsourcing logistics services has really become a
common practice. The survey also investigated what kinds of services are
required. Comparing with the classification of logistics services are more detailed
about the process.
The most frequent used logistics services (Lied & Miller, 2002) Logistics Function
Used Frequency Warehouse management/operation 59 % Direct transportation
service 49 % Freight forwarding 44 % Shipment consolidation 43 % Freight
payment 40 % 12 Customs brokerage 38 % Consulting services 30 %
Tracking/tracing 30 % Carrier selection 29 % Relabeling/repacking 27 % Rate
negotiation 29 % Fleet management/operations 24 % Some of the frequently
used logistics services listed above are connected with advanced information
system management, such as warehouse management/operation and tracking
/tracing. The IT support, like advanced information system management, offering
by the logistics services providers is heavily relied by the logistics service user
(Lied & Miller, 2002; Bessant & Rush, 2000).
However, some researchers have come up with their opinions. Win (2008)
viewed that: “A fourth-party logistics is an independent, singularly, accountable,
non asset based integrator of a clients supply and demand chains. The role is to
implement and manage a value creating business solution through control of time
and place utilities and influence on form and possession utilities within the client
organization.
This definition points out the nature of fourth-party logistics and explained
roughly how it works with client. While, it only see fourth-party logistics from the
angle of value creation, which makes it lack of integrity. Despite of the short
coming, the definition could give the reader a general idea of what is fourth-party
logistics. 4.3.2 Fourth party VS Third party logistics As presented above, most of
companies are familiar with third-party logistics and many of them have more
than one third-party logistics providers. Lied & Miller (2002) discovered that the
user of third-party logistics provider intends to expand service range,
continuously cut down cost and have a lead logistics provider. This phenomenon
is the reason for fourth-party logistics emerging (Bowersox et al., 2007). Fourth-
party logistics is capable of managing various kinds of third-party logistics for its
customer (Coyle et al., 2003).
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Material generally used in previous years was wood and other harder material
for no breakage but it added considerable shipping weight to the transportation
and it further increased transportation cost. Generally new era has come up with
the efficient packaging materials, organization nowadays use most cost effective
packaging with focus on security and minimizing cost. Cushioning material include
shrink wrap for consumers packaged goods. Packaging also helped reduce
pilferage and product tampering in warehouse and during transport . air bubbles
cushioning is made of plastics sheets that contain air pockets .there are others
factors while considering packaging they are environmental protection. They are
considered in situation of perishable items like food and drugs.
