Very important notes:

1. The process is a bit lengthy. But you will never have to depend on any software or any other person
after you have learnt this. As you grow older, it will take lesser time to execute the steps.
2. By learning and applying my process, you agree to MY TERMS AND CONDITIONS which says that
you will take my side and defend me when software developers or vendors will try to kick my butt.

Tools Needed:
1. Windows Notepad
2. Microsoft Excel
3. The Downloader application that comes with your metastock.

Here is what we are going to do:

1. First of all we will download the bhavcopy for the day whose EOD is to be integrated into the
metastock database from this link:

At the bottom of the page there is a text box that accepts the date in dd-mm-yyyy format. I am showing the
process for the day of 09th Nov.2010.
After entering the date, press “Get” button.
You will be provided with 2 links at the top left corner of the page; one in .csv format and another in .dbf format.
Right click and save the one with .csv format to your local machine (anywhere).
2. Unzip the file and the actual .csv file will be extracted.
3. Double click on it . It will look like the image shown below.

4. Select the entire 2nd column by clicking over “B”.

5. Go to Data->Filter->Autofilter as shown below.
6. Soon you will have a downward pointing arrow right under B. Click on that and choose “custom” as
shown below.
7. A new window called “Custom Autofilter” will appear. Fill it exactly as shown below.
8. Press OK.
9. Select all the resulting rows and delete them as shown below.
10. Then remove the autofilter that we had previously set in 2nd column. After this you will be left only
with”EQ” (equities) in the second column.
11. Replace all the “EQ” entries in the second column with 20101109 (date written in yyyymmdd format).
12. Delete the entire column G (LAST), H (PREVCLOSE), J(TOTTRDVAL).
13. Now under column “H”, TIMESTAMP will appear followed by dates as shown below.
14. Replace all of them with 0(zero). Then delete the entire first row which consists of headers, starting
from SYMBOL upto TIMESTAMP.
15. What you will be left with will look like the image below.
16. To this, we will add another identical row at the bottom (or anywhere you choose) for
S&PCNXNIFTY. You can get the Open/High/Low/Close values for nifty from this link:

17. Now you are left with S&PCNXNIFTY as the last row as shown below. The last 2 columns will be 0
(zero) for S&PCNXNIFTY.
18. Now Go to File and save the file as you do for any other file (you may have to change the name
because the file itself is a read-only file, I am not sure though). After saving, the extension still
remains as <name>.csv. Right click over that and rename it as <name>.xls.

19. Now open it. You will see that everything now comes under one column, separated by comma, as
shown below.
20. Select the entire document and paste in a notepad instance. Save the notepad.

Now , How to import the data from notepad into metastock.

1. Open Metastock Downloader.

2. Go to Tools->Convert
3. Fill as shown below.
4. Then click “options” at the right edge.
5. Select the “source” tab and fill as shown.
7. Select the “destination” tab and fill as shown below.
8. “Apply”-> OK->OK. Conversion starts and continues (see below).
9. Conversion completed successfully (see below).
10. Close everything and check your metastock charts. Game Over (No need to see below anymore).
