Types of Sender in Communication Process:

 Speaker – telephone, phone call and public speaking.


 Writer – written letters and virtual messaging.

3 Classifications of Codes

 Verbal – use of words whether the information is spoken or written.


 Non-verbal – gestures, symbols, facial expressions, body movements, eye contact.
 Paralanguage – accent, pitch, volume, intonation, speech rate, modulation, and fluency.

Communication Model

 Sender – produces or sends the message


 Message – the idea/ information to be expressed
 Encode – process in which the message is produced.
 Channel – the medium/ conduit; the physical path thru which the message is transmitted
 Code – the form of the message
 Decode – is how the receiver understand and interpret the message.
 Receiver – the person receiving the message
 Feedback – a special message from the receiver about the sender’s message

Context- situation, environment, scenario, circumstance which communication takes place

Is communication always a cyclical process?

 No, because not in all times the receiver receives or understands the message and both the
sender and the receiver may share differing contexts.

How do we know if the communication is effective?

 We can consider a communication effective when the sender and receiver share the same
context between their messages.
