Detailed Lesson Plan in

Science VI

Objectives:
At the end of the class, the pupils should be able to:

a. Recognize the Gravitational and Frictional Force

b. Construct an experiment that shows Gravitational and Frictional Force
c. Share the importance of Gravity and Friction in their daily lives.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Gravitational and Frictional Force

Materials: Visual aids, Apple, String, Cloth, Scissors, Book, Eraser, Pencil, Ball Spring

balance, Beam balance

Reference: Science active minds 6 page. 240-261

Curriculum Guide: S6FE-IIIa-Cl page. 105

III. Procedure

Teacher`s Activity Pupil`s Activity

A. Preliminary Activity

a. Prayer
Before we start, Let us pray (Pupils say the prayer)
b. Greetings
Good Morning class! You may Good morning Teachers! Good morning
now take your seats. classmates!
c. Checking of Attendance
Class secretary, do we have
(secretary report)
absentees for today’s class?
d. Review
Before we proceed to our new
lesson, let us first review our
previous lesson.

Is there anyone here who can still

remember the lesson that we
Yesterday, we learned about Force.
learned last time?

Again what is Force?

Force is a push or pull that affect an object.
(Very Good!)

In addition to that, force itself is

invisible. It cannot be seen, but its
effect can be felt, seen and often
measured.

B. Developmental Activity

a. Motivation
Class, I need five volunteers for this
activity. And for the rest, please (Pupils volunteered for the said activity)
pay careful attention as your
classmates do the activity. I will ask
five pupils to come in front and
follow my instruction. Is that clear? Yes Sir!

First Pupil: with pencil

Second Pupil: with book
Third Pupil: with eraser
Fourth Pupil: with ball and,
Fifth Pupil: with a toy car

First, second and third pupil will

drop the object or throw them
upward. Then, fourth pupil will roll (Pupils do the activity as the rest of the group
the ball. Lastly, the fifth pupil will purposively observing.)
slide a toy car on the floor.

Thank you!

Everybody! Please give them a Whole class will respond

BRAVO clap.

b. Discussion
 From the activity that we have,
what did you observed when your
classmates who drop certain object
The pencil and eraser moves down.
like pencil and eraser?

Very good!

 What did you observed when your

The book fall on the floor.
classmate who drop the book?

Very good!

 Don’t you ever think why those

It is because of Gravity.
things fell down? And why is didn’t
stay up?

You got it!

Excellent! It is because of Gravity

 What did you observed when your The ball stops rolling afterwards.
classmate rolls the ball on the floor?

 What do you think is the reason why

the ball does not continue to roll? It maybe because of gravity also.

 And the toy car was not able to

continue to slide on the floor? Because the floor was too rough.

It’s because of Friction

 This is what we are going to learn

today. It is about Gravitational and
Frictional Force.

 Again what we are going to learn About Gravitational and Frictional Force.
today?

 When you hear the word “gravity” Floating

what comes into your mind? Flying
Outer space
Astronaut
Great! Planets

Gravitational force is the force that

exists between any two masses,
attracting them toward each other.

 Did you know that weight and mass

are connected to gravity? Yes Sir! / Or No Sir!

 I have a friend who can help us to

understand better about gravity his Yes Sir! He is a Scientist
name is Isaac Newton. Do you know Smart
him? Genius
Talented
(Show a picture of Isaac Newton)

 What about “friction” have you

already met this word? Or are you Yes Sir! Its rubbing two objects
familiar with it? No Sir not yet!

When we say friction is the force that

resist motion when the surface of
one object comes into contact with
the surface of another.

Do you want to know how friction Yes of course Sir!

works?

Motion

Pushing
Force

Friction

None so far Sir!

Is there any question so far?
Any clarification about our lesson?

c. Application

Your class will be divided into four

groups; each group has a
respective activity to do. All group
you need to construct an
experiment to show the given
topic, materials and answer the
following questions.

Group 1&3: (Gravitational force) Group reporting

Materials: Stick bar, apple, string ] (each group will be represented by a leader)
and thick cloth

Class, Give them a DADDY SHARK

clap!
Group reporting
Group 2&4: (Frictional force) (each group will be represented by a leader)
Materials: spring balance, three
identical book and string
Class, give them a DRACULA clap!

d. Generalization

Let us see if you really understand

our lesson that we have for today.

Based on experiments that will you Gravitational force is a force that attracts any
have done, Can you describe now objects with mass.
what Gravitational force is?
Because of gravity Sir we still remain on the
ground.

Bravo! Very well said Jumping

Hopping
Can you give an example of Throwing objects
Gravitational force?

Very good! Frictional force is a force that acts to stop the

movement of two touching things.
How about Frictional force, Can
you describe it? Because of frictional force we can stop
running, walking anytime we want.

Very good! Walking

Running
Now, Can you give an example of Rolling
Frictional force? Sliding

e. Values Integration All of us will float at the atmosphere.

We can fly.
What would happen if there is no
Gravitational force on earth?
We can’t control a lot of activities like walking
Very good! and running

And what will happen if there is no

Frictional force here on earth?
Excellent!

IV. Evaluation
Choose the letter of the correct answer.
1. Which of the following activities involve both pushing and pulling?
a. lifting a box
b. picking a fruit
c. pressing a doorbell
d. twisting a rope

2. Which of the following about Gravity is incorrect?

a. gravity allows all objects on earth to have mass.
b. gravity pulls everything toward the ground.
c. gravity is a kind of force that acts from a distance.
d. gravitational force varies with the distance of the object from earth?

3. Gravity pulls all objects ______.

a. away from the center
b. downward
c. sideward
d. upward
4. What is the direction of frictional force acting on the box in the diagram below?

W E

a. N b. S c. E d. W S
5. A soldier climbs up to the top of a rope. What can he do to help him slide down
the rope quickly?

a. reduce friction
b. increase friction
c. reduce gravity
d. increase gravity

V. Assignment
