Media a Bane or a Boon(PAKISTAN)

The Media surrounds us through the shows we watch on television and the music we
listen on radio. Without it, we will cutout from the rest of the world including
governing bodies, law makers, and nearby towns and cities. The flow of information
is necessary for expansion of communities and media aids this. Media persons have
to have to do a lot of research to make their report about an event or a situation.
They don’t just provide pages of facts and statistics that the average person might
not understand. Instead, they weed out the important issues and points, putting
them in a context that the average reader and listener can make sense of in order to
form their own opinions.

Print is the oldest media of mass communication. Newspapers can reach greater
masses of public. They allow readers to control exposure. This not only gives us the
facts about an event or issue but also explains and interprets them. In 1947,
Pakistan inherited a weak press with very little law for controlling and regulating the
press .But now it has become very much advanced.

Radio a form of media is not only source of information in several areas, it is also
playing a vital role in disseminating information about national policies of
government, highlighting the Islamic Ideological basis of our country, providing
entertainment to the listeners of different age groups, inform the listeners about the
events taking place in the world and makes them aware of the general information
on health, education and many other things. Pakistan broadcasting corporation has
24 radio stations which daily broadcasts programs of general entertainment. Overall,
Islamabad emerged as the ‘media threat capital’ of Pakistan, the place most
dangerous in the country to practice journalism with no less than 143 of the 368
cases of various categories of intimidation of the media recorded here.

Media and Judiciary are two independent pillars to save the country from sudden
Slip. Judiciary put down number of good decisions in her little age of independence
which is only one year. Whereas media is older then judiciary and it shows no
positive alterations in people's attitude towards the ridiculous change.
Hence we can say that in Pakistan the responsibility of media is much more then any
media in the world, because Pakistan needs a big change and only media is now, as
much powerful. At present media is the only source which is easily accessible by all
walks of people through various electronic appliances i.e. TV, Radio, Internet, News
Papers and now mobile phones also used by people to aware of events every time.
Media affects people's perceptions and priorities their thinking about the political
contents. Media shapes the public's behavior about the issues and plays vital role in
high lighting certain attributes of issues. Gatekeepers of the media i.e. (editors, news
editors, and other journalists) they all play central role in shaping the media agenda
which becomes public agenda after sometime.

Media of any country is reflection of that country. It shows that how person behave
and live in their country. The way of expressing news, way of talking of politicians in
political debates and discussion programs shows the behavior of people of that
country. Although media's responsibility is to spread true stories but media should be
careful in this regard. They have to adopt such a way in which they could aware
public without impacting negatively their mind sets and make them able to protest in
a true manner which could result oriented.

Pakistani Media is sometimes seemed to be very much greedy and violent in their
plight to get latest and hottest news. It has the ability to hold government
responsible, or to compel them to state their decisions and actions. Some media
persons in Pakistan are government and anti Pakistan agents. They are responsible
for presenting the bad status of Pakistan throughout the world. One of the influential
forces of media is ability to effect change at government and social level.

Media is a unique feature of modern society. Its development has accompanied an

increase in the magnitude and complexity of societal actions and engagements, rapid
social change, technological innovation, rising personal income and standard of life
and the decline of some traditional forms of control and authority. Media on social
level is creating awareness for people about different aspects of life. Some programs
are organized to provide information to the people about Medical issued. Professional
doctors are invited to address the public on the right way e.g. how to control cholera,
malaria and other diseases using different tips.
Media is also creating sense of Consumer Courts in public. Few days before, a visa
consultant deceived a customer and snatched his 5 lack rupees. The affected person
contacted with consumer court and got his money back with the fine. This matter
was displayed on electronic media several times. After this, a great number of people
went consumer court to make there matters resolved.

Media is also spreading the bad culture of India clearly depicting that there are such
people in the media who do not want Pakistan’s prosperity and good status. The
Indian culture is spoiling small children heavily. A Muslim child who is expected to be
an Islamic model is praising the Indians gods. Women are also affected by it. They
have crossed the limit of Islamic civilization. This is the will of Indians to through the
Muslims in cavity of sins so that they can’t even participate in the prosperity and
progression of their country.

Media on other hand is also spreading fear, restlessness and high blood pressure in
the people by showing terrorism and other accidentals events. These things should
be shown at compatible level. The important form of media is TV. Different shows
are organized according to someone’s mood. It strengthens our knowledge and
beliefs. On other hand, it is also a source of distraction for small children. The
viewing of TV can entertain both, olds and young’s for a long period of time.

Finally, I will conclude by saying that media is a source of useful information as well
as source of producing bad effects in the society. It depends on us that what we
want to get from it or how we want to use it.

“A free press can, of course, be good or bad, but, most certainly

without freedom, the press will never be anything but bad.”(Albert Camus)
