Scope and Delimitation

The study covers the used of the present system but just automating it to easily check the

attendance of the students. To make it easier to identify their records, the proposed system will

be capable of maintaining the efficiency of every student attendance of the student number. The

proposed system also has the capability of computer penalty of student to be given depending on

his attendance as regards to his/her absences per day.

Chapter 2

REVIEW OF RELATED STUDIES AND LITERATURE

2.0 Introduction

This Chapter is about Review Studies and Literature. It will show the different studies

about foreign and local studies about Attendance Monitoring System. In the year 2013 and

above.

2.1 Related Studies and Literature

According to Aba and Dahlui (2017), all data will be which are representing Student ID

are processed by attendance management system for monitoring the attendance student

performance.

According to Kanna and Keerthi (2018), the system is developed with the aim to

overcome the drawbacks of the existing applications. The staff can access the server credentials.

The staff can create the students’ account by providing credentials which is done by uploading
an excel sheet in the server instead of manual work. The credentials in database are used for

student log in. When the students logs in; their log in details will be stored in the database which

can be used for attendance generation. The client system will be shutdown automatically if it is

idle for certain amount of time. The performance of the client system can be analyzed by using

the log file generated in the server.

According to Kuriakose and Vermaak (2015), research has proved that there is a high

correlation between high class attendance and academic performance. Learning is a progressive

activity which builds upon those of previous day(s). Reading material and working

independently do not compensate for the lost of insight gained by being physically present in

classroom environment.

According to Rjeid and Salih Ali (2019), the proposed system aims to manage student’s

attendance recording and provides the capabilities of tracking student absente as well, supporting

information services include students grading marks, daily timetable, lectures time and

classroom numbers, and other student-related instructions provided by faculty department staff.

Based on the results, the proposed attendance and information system is time-effective and it

reduces the documentation efforts as well as, it does not have any power consumption.

According to Adeniran and Sanni (2019), the attendance taking- process of any

institution including universities and other tertiary institutions is an essential part of justifying

the excellence of a particular student. Conventional attendance management system involving

the use of attendance sheet and signing has proved to have some associated problems such as

time wasting, fake attendance and misplacement of attendance sheet, thus making the system
inefficient and ineffective. The application was developed using Microsoft Visual Basic and

Microsoft Access as the database.

According to Anjum and Kamble (2013), the Interface software is responsible to control

the marking of attendance in the software. The system can also generate detention list of the

students. It is small scale application which is completely automated, easy to control, time saving

and reliable.

According to Rekha (2016), the attendance is taken in every organization. Traditional

approach for attendance is, professor calls student name & record attendance. For each lecture

this is wastage of time. To avoid these losses, we are about to use automatic process which is

based on image processing. In this project approach, we are using face detection & face

recognition system. The first phase is pre-processing where the face detection is processed

through the step image processing. It includes the face detection and face recognition process.

Second phase is feature extraction. Step by step execution of these techniques (Image

Processing) helps to achieve the final output. The working of this project is to detect and

recognize the face and mark the attendance for the corresponding face in the database. Input of

this project is face detection and recognition and output is to mark the attendance. Our project is

being presented as a solution for the Automatic Attendance Marking System. It is designed to be

reliable and low power. The Automatic face detection and recognition proposed to attendance

marking in database acts as the solution for the automatic attendance marking system.

2.2. Synthesis

Related studies show that attendance monitoring system is better than manual processed.

The studies started that having a database is important saving information which is similar to the
proposed system that to track student files. The transformation of manual attendance to automate

and now into web based automation is one example of what has driven partly by technological

innovation.

With the above mentioned, Aba and Dahlui stated that data will be which are

representing Student ID for monitoring the attendance student performance.

Kanna and Keerthi stated that the system is developed with the aim to overcome the

drawbacks of the existing applications.
