Philosophy of Learning

By:Eden Wolfe
My philosophy of learning is that all students learn in different ways and that you should use
different ways as an advantage. There are seven different types of learning style they are visual,
aural, verbal, physical, logical, social, and solitary. In my classroom I will switch it up between all
these methods so that every student will be able to know which way they learn best and use it in
the future. For seating arrangement I will probably have them working in groups for a majority of
the time so that they can bounce their ideas off of each other. I will also use this because when
they are older they will be having to work with other people and if they cannot do that efficiently
then they will struggle to find a job that they will thoroughly enjoy.Of course some of their work
and projects will be them working alone so that I will be able to know what they are capable of.
Every month or so I will switch up their desks so that they can get comfortable with everyone in
the class and not just stick to one group of people because you are not always going to be with
people you know. Being able to form bonds with everyone will be very useful for when they get
a job, and so they can find a way to work together even if they do not think the same way about
every situation. Visual learning is where you learn from pictures, images, or being shown how to
do it. I feel like this would be very effective so they will be able to know what they are going to
have to be doing and have the opportunity to not just focus on reading what is on the page but
actually understanding how it works. The next one is aural which is learning by learning a song
or having some music with it. This is a very effective way to remember something for a
presentation so that if you forget you can just sing the song in your head and you will be able to
get to the place you were stuck at. A different way you could use would be verbal so being
lectured to which some students actually prefer. I will use this on and off because I will not want
to bore my students, but also want them to not have to read all the information and listen to the
way I describe it so that they can get a different perspective. My favorite way is physical
because I went to a montessori school. In physical learning you use your body, hands, and
sense of touch. I am a very hands on person so that I can learn from my own failure. If I just see
someone else mess up then I will not essentially get how to fix their mistake. Doing it yourself
forces you to embrace failure and learn from your mistakes so that you can improve them in the
future. In my class I will probably bring in things for them to touch or mess with so that can get a
hands on experience about what I am trying to demonstrate to them. The last way is logical
which is where you use logic, reasoning, and systems. I will probably use this in a way that they
can debate their ideas and find out all the facts about it. This will both be fun and useful for the
students because then they can find out others perspectives and fully dive into the topic that
they are researching. I will also do debates in the way of writing them so you do not have as
much time to prepare and can test your abilities of finding knowledge far back in your brain to
deter the other person's rebuttal. I will constantly switch these methods up so that can
experience them all. My classroom will have plenty of opportunities to embrace yourself and
express your thoughts so that you can get feedback to better yourself. It will be very interactive
so that they will get a better understanding of what they are supposed to be learning and how to
cope with things that they do not understand. Different situations awaken students abilities so in
order for them to be comfortable I will have to make them uncomfortable. When you put people
in new situations they learn different things about themselves and what their capabilities are.
