Calling in general
● Why do you think Paul told Timothy not to be ashamed of the testimony or of his
imprisonment?
○ LEADERS NOTE: Timothy probably was fearful (v.7) and struggling a bit with
what he was called to do because it was costly.
 ● If you have stepped into a calling, what has that cost you?

● Was it worth the cost?

● Paul tells Timothy that God has called them to a holy calling, what do you think that
was?
○ LEADERS NOTE: It was the life that God had called them to live, one of service
to His church.

● Do you think we all have the same calling as them? Explain.

○ LEADERS NOTE: We all have a calling to serve God’s church, so yes we have
the same calling, however the exact method will differ for each of us.

Discovering your calling

● Since we have established that we are all called to a set apart life serving Jesus’ church,
now we have to sort through how each of us should do that. Do you know what God is
calling you to do practically to serve His church?

● For those who don’t, how can you discover that specific calling within the church?

● What is something that draws you in? (A love or passion for something)

● Do you believe that those passions can be used to help others grow in their relationship
with God? (Eph. 4:12-13)

● Do you struggle with what God has called you to do for His church?

Calling gets side tracked

● What side tracks people from fulfilling their calling to serve the church?
○ LEADERS NOTE: Sin, disappointment, blessings of God (some times when God
blesses us with things we focus on them as the expense of serving Him).

● Have you been side tracked from serving the Lord’s church?

● What got you off the rails?

Getting back on Track

● What did Paul do to get Timothy back on track (2 Tim. 1:6-9)?

 ○ LEADERS NOTE: He reminded him of when God called and gifted him. He also
reminded Him that God’s calling to serve was on the basis of what Jesus had
already done.

● What do you think will help you get back on track?

● Read Matt. 28:18-20. What two truths does Jesus give His disciples to give them
confidence to fulfill their calling to make disciples?
○ LEADERS NOTE: He started with His authority in v. 18 and ended with His
presence in v. 20.

What area of service are you uniquely gifted or passionate about within the church?

Are you serving in that ministry currently? If not will you start this week?
