Section D contains 11 questions of 4 marks each.

1. If the circumference and the area of a circle are numerically equal, then find the radius of the
circle. [1]
2. Find the next two terms of this given series 2, 8 , 18 , 32.... . [1]
3. Find the value(s) of ‘p’ for which the equation px2 – 2px + 3 = 0 has real and equal roots. [1]
4. A tower is 5 3 metres high. Find the angle of elevation of its top from a point 5 metres away
from its foot. [1]

[Section B]
5. John and Jivanti together have 45 marbles both of them lost 5 marbles each and the product of
the number of marbles they now have is 124. Find the number of marbles each is having. [2]
6. An AP consists of 50 terms of which third term is 12 and the last term is 106. Find the 29th
term. [2]
7. Find the values of y for which the distance between the points P(2, –3) and Q(10, y) is 10
units. [2]
8. The wheels of a car are of diameter 80 cm each. How many complete revolutions does each
wheel make in 10 minutes when the car is travelling at a speed of 66 km/h? [2]
9. A hemispherical depression is cut out from one face of a cubical wooden block such that the
diameter l of the hemisphere is equal to the edge of the cube. Determine the surface area of the
remaining solid. [2]
10. Suppose you drop a die at random on the rectangular region shown in the below figure. What
is the probability that it will land inside the circle with diameter 1cm? [2]

13. A statue 1.6 m tall stands on the top of a pedestal. From a point on the ground the angle of
elevation of the top of the statue is 60°, and from the same point, the angle of elevation of the
top of pedestal is 45°. Find the height of the pedestal. [3]
14. If (a, b) is the mid-point of the line segment joining the points A(10, –6) and B(k, 4) and
a –2b = 18, find the value of k and the distance AB. [3]
15. A round table cover has six equal designs. If the radius of the cover is 28 cm, find the cost of
making the designs at the rate of `0.35 per cm2 (Use 3 = 1.7 ) [3]

16. A cone of radius 4cm is divided into two parts by drawing plane through the mid point of its
axis and parallel to its base. Compare the volumes of the two parts. [3]
17. A number x is selected from the numbers 1, 2, 3 and then a second number y is randomly
selected from the numbers 1, 4, 9. What is the probability that the product xy of the two
numbers will be less than 9?
18. Two customers are visiting a particular shop in the same week (Monday to Saturday). Each is
equally likely to visit the shop on any one day as on another. What is the probability that both
will visit the shop on:
(i) the same day? (ii) different days?
(iii) consecutive days? [3]
19. Draw a DABC with BC = 7 cm, ∠B = 45°, ∠A = 105°. Then construct a triangle whose sides are
3/4 times the corresponding sides of DABC. [3]
20. Prove that opposite sides of a quadrilateral circumscribing a circle subtend supplementary
angles at the centre of the circle. [3]

[Section D]
21. In figure O is the centre of a circle of radius 5cm, T is a point such that OT = 13cm and OT
intersects the circle at E. If AB is the tangent to the circle at E, find the length of AB. [4]

22. Draw a circle of radius 3 cm. Take two points P and Q on one of its extended diameters each at
a distance of 7 cm from its centre. Draw tangents to the circle from these two points P and Q. [4]

23. In the given figure tangents PQ and PR are drawn to a circle such that ∠RPQ = 30º. A chord RS

30. A hollow cone is cut by a plane parallel to the base and the upper portion is removed. If the

curved surface area of the remainder is of the curved surface area of the whole cone, find the

ratio of the line segments into which the cone’s altitude is divided by plane. [4]
31. A sphere and cube have the same surface area. Show that the ratio of the volumes of the sphere
and the cube is 6 : p. [4]
