(1) Inside NPC Agus 7 Audio Visual Room [10 sentences]


1.1. First, He introduce his self and started to tell us that he graduated at St. Peters College.
1.2. After that, he started to show us about the slides about the generating plant inside the npc.
1.3. He also explained us the basic principle of operation of the generator.
1.4. He then introduced us the different generating plants of National Power Corporation.
1.5. And he explained to us the principles of operation inside the plant.
1.6. The speaker also explained us why is it important to step-up the voltage from the generation to the
transmission lines and step-down the voltage from the transmission lines to the distibution.
1.7.He explained us that it is important to step-up the voltage from the generating plant to the transmission
lines to minimize the losses because as the voltage increases the current decreases resulting the losses to
minimize.
1.8. And it is also important to step-down the voltage from the transmission lines to the distribution utility to
increase the current so that it can sustain the exact current needed to the load.
1.9. After explaining us about inside the generating plant, he oriented us that when we enter inside the plant
we must wear our PPE or personal protective equipment to avoid any injuries and accidents.
1.10. And after that our adviser Engr. Ruben P. Cope gives the Plaque of Appreciation on NPC for giving us
the opportunity to visit its modern substation and control center facilities which provides us insight to the
real world of Electrical Engineering.

(2) Actual electrical equipment / devices that I saw inside NPC Agus 6 Power Plant and its function
2.1. Power transformer, it is used to step-up the voltage from the generating plant to the transmission lines.
2.2. Current transformer, this are instrument transformers that is used to reduce or multiply an alternating
current.
2.3. Generator, the function of generator inside the plant is it is the that converts mechanical energy from the
water turbines into electrical power that is used in an external circuit.
2.4. Voltage Regulators, it is used to control of voltage within prescribed limits and also to prevent
dangerous over voltage in a system.
2.5. Bus bar, it is used to carry and electric current to which many connections are to be made.
2.6. Reactor, it used in the circuit to limit the short circuit currents to safer value in order to protect the
electrical installation.
2.7. Insulators, the type of insulator that i saw in NPC is a porcelain insulator which is used to support the
bus-bar and also to provide the insulation to the bus-bar from pole to ground.
2.8. Switchgears, this are used in electrical equipments to switch on and off under both normal and
abnormal conditions.
2.9. Circuit Breakers, it is used to open and closed contact under normal and abnormal conditions.
2.10. Fuse Cutout, it is a combination of a fuse and a switch and it is used in primary overhead feeder lines
and taps to protect the transformers from current surges and overloads.

(3) Actual electrical knowledge I had learned [20 sentences]


3.1. Principle operation of a generating power plant.
3.2. Stepping-up the voltage from the generating plant to the transmission lines.
3.3. 6 operating power plant in lanao del norte.
3.4. Agos 3 is one of the Agos in lanao but didn't operate
3.5. I’ve learned why is it that there is only one transmission line, and that is to maintain the stability of the
system.
3.6. The different electrical equipment and devices that are used inside the plant.
3.7. Agus 6 Hydro Power Plant has 2 operating units 25 MW in each unit.
3.8. The falls that were used for the water source in every hydro electric plants were government owned.
3.9. NPC produces almost 900 MW from Agus 1- Agus 7.
3.10. The 7 Agus Hydro Power Plants are located from Lake Lanao in Marawi City down to the Maria
Cristina Falls, Fuentes, Iligan City.
3.11. I’ve seen the actual electrical equipment and devices that were used inside the generating plant.
3.12. The Agus hydro power plants are one of the major contributor of electrical power in whole Mindanao.
3.13. How the generator converts mechanical energy coming from the turbine which was being driven by
the huge water source coming from the Maria Cristina Falls.
3.14. The usage of dam in a hydro generating plant.
3.15. I’ve learned that National Power Corporation was created under Commonwealth Act No. 120 on
November 3, 1936 as a non-stock corporation.
3.16. I’ve also learned that in 1960, NPC was converted into a stock corporation wholly owned by the
government under Republic Act 2641.
3.17. Process on how does electricity is being produce through hydroelectric system.
3.18. The power transformers are one of the important electrical equipment in generating plant.
3.19. I’ve learned that generators are very important electrical equipment in all generating plant.
3.20. The operation of fuse cutout are used in primary overhead feeder lines.

1.1. The lecturer explained us about NGCP and what is the purpose of it.
1.2. The lecturer also explained us the purpose of having only one power grid in the whole Philippines.
1.3. And they also asked some questions relating on the field of Electrical Engineering.
1.4. After that, they explained to us the different electrical equipment and devices that are used in their
substations.
1.5. They also explained us that during their power interruption it must been scheduled 7 days before the
said power interruption.
1.6. The lecturers also explained us that if the frequency is more than 60 there is less load needed from the
customer.
1.7. And if the frequency is less than 60 there is more load needed from the customer.
1.8. They explained us that they delivered power for about 900 MW daily and 160000 MW monthly.
1.9. After that one of the lecturer oriented us on what are things to do if you enter the substation, and that is
to know your substation, know your equipment and know your customer.
1.10. After the lecture our adviser Engr. Ruben P. Cope gives the Plaque of Appreciation on NGCP for
giving us the opportunity to visit its modern substation and control center facilities which provides us insight to
the real world of Electrical Engineering.

(2) Actual electrical equipment / devices that I saw inside NGCP Balo-i Substation and its function
2.1. Dead tank Circuit Breakers- the breakers whose enclosed tank is at ground potential are known dead
tank circuit breakers, and their tank encloses all the insulating and interrupting medium.
2.2. Live Tank Circuit Breakers- their tank encloses all the insulating and interrupting medium, and the tank
is shorted to ground or it is at dead potential.
2.3. Power Transformers- it is used to step-up the voltage from the generating plant to the transmission
lines.
2.4. Current transformer - this are instrument transformers that is used to reduce or multiply an alternating
current.
2.5. Fuse Cutout - it is a combination of a fuse and a switch and it is used in primary overhead feeder lines
and taps to protect the transformers from current surges and overloads.

(3) Actual electrical knowledge I had learned [20 sentences]


3.1. I’ve learned why is it important to have only one power grid in the whole country.
3.2. I’ve learned the electrical equipment and devices used inside the substation of NGCP.
3.3. I’ve learned the causes of transmission outage.
3.4. I’ve learned also the proper standard clearing widths that are going to be apply on transmission towers.
3.5. I’ve learned also the required minimum distance of live conductors above ground in meters of NGCP.
3.6. I’ve learned that when the frequency is less than 60 Hz there are more load needed from the customer.
3.7. I’ve learned that when the frequency is more tha 60 Hz there are less load needed from the customer.
3.8. I’ve learned that if there is power interruption in NGCP they must schedule it 7 days before the said
power interruption.
3.9. I’ve learned that NGCP delivered power for about 900 MW daily and 160000 MW monthly.
3.10. I’ve learned also the things to do when you are entering the substation.
3.11. I’ve learned that on the control room of NGCP they used scada system for monitoring and controlling
the electrical equipments and devices inside the substation.
3.12. I’ve learned that NGCP is a privately owned corporation in charge of operating, maintaining, and
developing the country’s state owned power grid.
3.13. I’ve learned that NGCP performs its mandates as transmission service provider with the full awareness
of its nature as a public utility, and in full compliance with the rules and regulations of the regulator, and
existing laws govering its transmission operations.
3.14. I’ve learned that on June 8, 2001, legislators passed and former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo
signed RA 9136 which is also known as the Electric Power Industry Act or EPIRA law to save the ailing
energy industry.
3.15. I’ve learned the policies that are being implented by NGCP.
3.16. I’ve learned that NGCP adheres a strict safety policy at the workplace and promotes safety practices in
communities living near transmission facilities.
3.17. I’ve learned that NGCP together with law enforcement agencies, strictly implements the law RA 7832
or also known as Anti-Pilferage Act of 1994 that prohibits and penalizes the stealing, selling, and buying of
any transmission tower and line part.
3.18. I’ve learned that NGCP also provides program like reforestation and tree replacement programs
especially in areas traversed by its transmission lines.
3.19. I’ve learned that NGCP also treasures education and they see education as a link for the youth towards
a more secure and progressive future.
3.20. I’ve learned that NGCP also provides community development progaram and they see their host
community as their partners and NGCP places premium on its partnership with communities protecting their
facilities through the construction of footbridges, multi-purpose halls, water systems, and other
infrastructures.
