Lesson Plan:

Class: DLI Chinese-7 grade Lesson: Computer and internet


Standard(s):
Utah World Language Standard: IH.IC.1: I can exchange information related to areas of mutual
interest.
Utah World Language Standard: IH.PW.1: I can write a simple summary about something I
have learned.
Objective(s):
1.Students will be able to summarize different types of computers and the usage of the
computer orally or in writing individually or in a small group.
2.Student will be able to exchange information or idea with others about the computer and
it’s usage with the words, phrases and sentence patterns individually.
Materials: Vocabulary:
1. Article “Computer and Internet” & 台式机、笔记本电脑、平板电脑、学习、娱乐、
handouts 网购、苹果、联想、戴尔、电脑迷、淘宝、京
2. Projector & whiteboard 东和亚马逊、网购、查资料

Lesson: Guided reading lesson Instructional Time: 70 Minutes
STEP1 Introduce the Objective: (3 minutes)
1.Students will be able to summarize different types of computers and the usage of the
computer orally or in writing individually or in a small group.
2.Student will be able to exchange information or idea with others about the computer and
it’s usage with the words, phrases and sentence patterns individually.

STEP 2 New words and phrases(20 minutes)


Activity 1: Group learning of new words.
Divide student into several group, each of which will be assigned a task of looking for one
specific type of words and study them in group. For example, one group of students will be
responsible for looking for computer TYPES/BRANDS/USAGE. For example the usage

of class.

Activity 2: Word list making


Pair up and use the table 1 to make a word list based on the word learning, share with other
groups to complete or perfect your word list.

Activity 3: Practice and assessment of new words


Students will be asked to pair up and they will do the “Play and guess” game. One student
will use his/her body language, facial expression and hand gestures to express the meaning
of new word, and the other student will guess and say the word in target language.

STEP3 Text learning (30 minutes)

Activity 1: Listening and answering questions


Students will read the questions related to text (Table 2) to guess what the recording is
about. Then teacher will ask student to listen to the recording and try to answer the
questions related to the content on Table 2.

Activity 2: Text teaching and modeling for group study


Teacher will teach the first paragraph as modeling, explaining the meaning of each
sentence, giving sentence example to the new words and phrases.

Activity 3: Jigsaw
In the first scenario students will be divided into 4 group of 4 persons and each of the 4
persons holding different number from 1 to 4. And teacher will assign each group with
one paragraph, and they work collaboratively to understand the paragraph with dictionary
and cooperation with group members. Teacher will walk around from group to group to
provide necessary help and support.
In the second scenario, students will be regroup with the ones holding the same number.
Each of the 4 new group will have all the experts from the previous group, whose job is to
share his/her expertise of the paragraph with others and make sure they all understand the 4
paragraphs.

STEP 4 Practice and revision (15 minutes)


Activity 1. Practice and Formative Assessment
Student will be asked to work on the Worksheet (table 3) in pair based on their
understanding of the text. Student will be asked randomly to tell the key information for a
formative assessment.

Activity 2. Information gap


Student will be asked to take the worksheet (table 3) to interview another 3 students to fill
out the table with required information, such as the types, the brands, the usage of
computer and how long he/she uses computer.

Activity 3: Find your partner


Work with your partner to create an question and answer based on the content, then put
them into the box. Then students take one paper randomly, and they are required to find
their question or answer to the paper they have.

STEP 5 Homework (2 minutes)


Students will be asked to do a research of what the first thing their family members do once
they get home. Write the answers with “一...就...” on a table 4 and submit it to teacher on
Canvas before next class.
