CONTEST GUIDELINES/MECHANICS FOR THE DISTRICT SCIENCE QUEST

A. Science Quiz (Pupils Only)


 Participants: Public Schools-Top three (3) placers in the School level
competition per grade level (Grade III-VI)
 Procedure:
Written Test- (Scope 100% from the textbooks and other reference books
based from the ELC, TG, LM Edition 1st to 4th grading period. (Teachers in
each grade level will submit 20 questions (5 easy, 5 average, 5 difficult and
5 clincher)
1. Grade 3 – 30 items (10 easy, 10 average, 10 difficult) – 40 minutes
Grade 4 – 40 items (10 easy, 10 average, 20 difficult) – 40 minutes
Grade 5 – 50 items (15 easy, 15 average, 20 difficult) – 60 minutes
Grade 6 – 50 items (15 easy, 15 average, 20 difficult) – 60 minutes
2. The contestants with the highest final score shall be declared as the
first place winner, the second highest, the second place winner and so
on.
3. In case of a tie, Clincher Round shall be played. It shall be a knockout
system between or among the contestants with equal scores until a
winner emerges. The first one who can answer correctly will be the
winner.
4. Top five (5) scorers/winners per grade level will be awarded.
5. The duly registered coach of the contestants is the only person
authorized to file protest.

B. SCI-DAMA- (Pupil & Teacher Category)


1. There will be two (2) contestants per district (Public);
2. Participants-First placers in two categories.
Water Patrol- Grade III-IV--------------Power Patrol-GradeV/VI
3. Participants shall bring their own Sci-Dama Board.
4. The chief arbiter shall orient the contestants and their coaches before the
contest proper.
5. The Top three (3) scorers/winners per category will be awarded.

C. SCIENCE FAIR- Investigatory projects- Four (4) entries per School (Pupil and
Teacher Category)
Participants- First place winners in the following
Individual Category- Life or Applied Science
Team Category- maximum of three (3) members. The leader of the team will
present and defend the project. The project maybe either be Life or Applied Science.

Bring your own display board/tarpaulin; Display may include the following:
 Abstract
 Methodology
 Results and discussion
 Four (4) clear copies/typewritten or computerized project write-up with the
correct format to be submitted on or before January 15, 2018 (4:00 PM) c/o
Mr. Samuel P. Dela Cruz, School Head- In-charge of Science
 Criteria for judging:

 Participants are te district first place winners from Grades III-VI
 Grade III write up must be in Mother Tongue (Pangasinan/Ilocano)
 Write Up should be in four (4) copies to be submitted on or before January
15, 2018 (4:00 PM) c/o Mr. Samuel P. Dela Cruz, School Head- In-charge of
Science

E. ON THE SPOT PAINTING:
 Each contestant will provide his/her own materials.

 Duration of the contest shall not exceed two hours. Finished outputs should
not contain any label of the name of the contestants.

F. COLLAGE MAKING/Scrap Art Contestant
 One contestant per grade level from grades 4 to grade 6
 Contestants should use indigenous and recyclable materials that are limited
for 4-6 materials.
 It should be mounted to a 20x30 ordinary illustration board.
 Duration of the contest shall not exceed two (2) hours.
 Criteria for judging:

H. ON THE SPOT IMPROVISED SCIENCE EQUIPMENT/TEACHING AIDS DEVELOPED


 The first place winner in the School level shall participate in the District finals
compose of three (3) members.
 The materials for the improvisation shall be provided by the management.
 Write-up should follow the format below:
a. Name of the Device
b. Rationale
c. Materials Used
d. Descriptive Presentation and Use of the Device
e. Work Plan
f. How to Construct the Device
g. When to use the Device list topics where the device can be used.
 Criteria for judging:

 The participants are given 3 hours to construct, then followed by a 5 minute
presentation using any mode/scheme (e.g. power pt, OHP, slides, etc.) and 5
minutes interrogation by the Board of Judges.

I. SCI-PHOTO JOURNALISM (Individual Category)

1. Only one (1) contestant per school shall participate in the contest
2. Only registered digital SLR and digital point-and-shoot cameras are allowed to
be used during the contest
3. During the contest registration, the contestants must also register their
respective cameras, which will be used for the contest. The contestants must
submit the soft/digital copy direct from the cameras. The photos must comply
with the following:
a. The photos must focus on trees/plants.
b. The photos must be taken inside the campus; the organizers shall identify
the place for the photo session.
c. The photos should be taken on the day of the contest.
d. The camera must activate the date and time setting to appear on the photo.
e. The photos must not have undergone digital editing and enhancement.
4. The contestants shall be given one (1) hour to take as many pictures as possible
in the venue determined by the organizers. After the allotted time, however, the
contestants must choose only one photo for printing. The contestants shall
provide a title of the photo which should capture the message of the subject and
paste it in an 8.5 by 13 bond paper.
5. Judging shall be based in the following criteria:

6. The top three (3) highest scoring contestants shall be declared winners.

OVERALL-CHAMPIONSHIP AWARDS:

Note: A Contestant is allowed to participate in only one (1) activity since the contests shall
be conducted simultaneously. He/She should have only one (1) coach.
