INSTALLATION – GAS SEPARATOR Date: 10-31-06

0.0 Scope
This method contains the instructions for installing a Centrilift gas separator.
1.0 Safety
All Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) should be worn at all times. Individual
well sites have special equipment requirements for PPE and it is the field service
technician’s responsibility to be aware of these requirements prior to arriving on
site.
2.0 Method
2.1. Gas Separator Installation Procedure
2.1.1. Prior to picking up the gas separator, turn the shaft of the previously
assembled equipment to make sure the shaft turns properly (do not use
vise grips or channel locks on the spines).
2.1.2. Pick up the gas separator for installation; lift carefully and slowly when
moving it closer to the rig; be aware of all personnel, obstructions and slip
hazards around you.
2.1.3. Remove the shipping cap with care since the separator to seal coupling is
in this cap. Remove the seal shipping cap and place the coupling on the
shaft.

2.1.4. Note: The gas separator base and standard pump intakes do not have an o-
ring since it is not necessary to seal this union.
2.1.5. Place the separator over the seal, ensuring that the intake holes are not
aligned with the motor pothead. This is to prevent the MLE cable passing
over the holes and causing damage to the cable.

2.1.6. CAUTION: Use caution during this operation and do not place
fingers between the flanges of the seal section and the gas separator.
2.1.7. Tighten the bolts and lock washers according the Valves and Bolts Torque
Procedure. Make sure the threaded holes of the seal head do not contain
motor oil, which can prevent correct screw tightening due to possible
hydraulic pressure.
2.1.8. CAUTION: Cover the annular space in the well to prevent screws and
washers from falling into the well and being picked up by the pump.

2.1.9. Before removing the seal head clamp, first verify the gas separator lifting
clamp and chains are correctly attached and tight.
2.1.10. Remove the seal head clamp and lower the hoist so that the gas separator
lifting clamp rests on the wellhead.
2.1.11. Remove the separator upper shipping cap and check shaft rotation with a
spline wrench to make sure all equipment turns downhole and is not in a
bind; temporarily replace the shipping cap.
