I've been searching around for this in a while, and I've found some answeres, but I'd like

Thanks: 1 I tried to install Windows 8 EFI, but I couldn't select UEFI from my boot order
Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts I burned the .iso from the upgrade assistant to a DVD, rebooted my pc, went to my BIOS,
then I checked the boot order and I couldn't select UEFI: "My drive"

I've read that my disc needs to be something caleld GPT instead of MBR, and that EFI
install is bugged on the DVD..

My motherboard is an Asus P8Z68-V

TL;DR.
How did you install Windows 8 EFI?

EDIT: Pictures

As you can see.. I can't select UEFI from the DVD, but I can select UEFI from the USB (JD
Firefly).
But my USB is only at 2gb, so I can't put Windows over there.
I have something called "Launch EFI Shell from File System device", but I don't know what
that function does :P

It was pretty annoying to install Windows 8 with UEFI on a simliar ASUS board on a spare hdd.

Be sure your DVD has "efi\boot\bootx64.efi" on it, if not you can't really install in UEFI mode :P

If it does try to copy https://edk2.svn.sourceforge.net/svn.../X64/Shell.efi onto a usbstick into rootpath and rename it to Shellx64.efi,
be sure the usb stick is FAT32 not NTFS
(i don't remember if It wants the file in root or under \EFI\BOOT\Shellx64.efi)
Reboot go to your UEFI and select "Launch EFI Shell from File System device"
Now in that shell it depends on what your DVD drive actually is, as i don't know you can just try it yourself :P

Type fs0:
and then \EFI\BOOT\BOOTX64.EFI

if nothing happens use fs1, fs2.. fs3 etc but you shouldnt really come over fs2 depending on how many devices you have connected,
Several dvd Drives, USB sticks etc, do not forget EFI does not support NTFS, so you can only see FAT32 formatted usb sticks.

I hope that was clear enough

If you would had a 4GB USB Stick like me and Asus never boots in UEFI even though selecting UEFI option, you can take the
bootx64.efi copy it into the root and rename it to shellx32.efi, then use "Launch EFI Shell from File System Device" now Windows
should go into it's EFI Setup. (That was my case, damn asus)

BTW you can make screenshots in Asus EFI by pressing F12 (it will copy the screenshots to your usb stick if you have one connected)

Never worked on my ASUS board (bit different model) which was very annoying.

first link, couldn't post the link because my post count is less than 20), but I couldn't do it, because I couldn't select UEFI:My DVD

So instead of doing that I could, theoreticly, use "Launch EFI Shell from File System device" and then select bootx64.efi? And then
follow the rest of the instructions, and Windows 7 EFI should be installed?

Download https://edk2.svn.sourceforge.net/svn.../X64/Shell.efi
Put it on a USB Stick formatted with FAT32
Rename it to shellx64.efi

Now go to "Launch EFI Shell from File System device"

If you did everything right you should now have some shell loaded thats pretty much just black and saying "Shell >"

Type fs0: then \EFI\BOOT\BOOTX64.EFI

If nothing happens try fs1: then \EFI\BOOT\BOOTX64.EFI etc

If it worked you will see Windows Boot, if you are in the Setup be sure you remove ALL partitions, then click "New" and you should see
it create 4 Partitions instead of 2, if you see it creating 4 Partitions you suceeded.

Join Date: 12 Aug 2010 1. Yes, fs0 (or whatever the number is) must be your DVD Drive, as you want to launch bootx64.efi!
Posts: 1,090 2. Yes, but it doesnt actually matter if you have other files ony our USB stick, it just needs to be FAT32 and have shellx64.efi
Thanks: 10 on the root.

I too had an Asus m/b that didn't have an efi shell & I couldn't boot the dvd through efi.
I ended up downloading the shell (as described above) & running it all manually...

Thanks: 24 update?
Thanked 61 Times in 44 Posts Their may also be an issue with your burnt dvd.

I had to convert an .img to .iso (tried nero/ultraiso) & found I could not boot in uefi mode
only bios/mbr using this converted iso.
In the end I used the MS too to build the iso & that worked:
Oscdimg -m -l"HRM_CCSA_X64FRE_EN-US_DV5" -
bootdata:2#p0,e,bD:\Win864BIT\boot\Etfsboot.com#pE
F,e,bD:\Win864BIT\efi\microsoft\boot\Efisys.bin -u1 -udfver102 D:\Win864BIT
D:\Win864BIT.iso
