C&C08 Digital SPC Switching System Service System
5.1 Overview
With the rapid development of the telecom industry and the increasing penetration of
telecom services in the day-to-day life, telecom users want more than just conversation
over the telephony network. The erstwhile switching equipment providing, only basic
call services is far from being able to meet the demands of the new generation users.
So telecom operators have to provide diverse services in order to remain attractive to
users.
In addition to POTS, the C&C08 Switching System also provides supplementary PSTN
services, basic N-ISDN services, supplementary N-ISDN services, virtual user
exchange service (CENTREX) and IN (Intelligent Network) services. It is capable of
catering to the actual narrow-band service requirements imposed by users.
PSTN supplementary services are a series of services specially provided for analog
users. These supplementary services supported by the C&C08 Switching System not
only comply with the equipment standards issued by the former MPT (Ministry of Posts
& Tele-Communications) of China, but also are adapted to the supplementary service
standards in many countries. The system meets the supplementary services
requirements in the countries where it has been installed and working. It also provides
some supplementary services characteristics of itself to meet the special requirements
of some users. As different countries have different supplementary service standards,
by carrying out supplementary service grammatical analysis and by configuring service
priority levels and its flexible service compatibility configuration capability, the C&C08
Switching System is able to meet the requirements of most of the countries.
The basic ISDN services provide bearer services of high quality for various standard
terminals by fully exploiting their advantage in bearer capability. On the other hand, the
supplementary ISDN services are services provided specially for BRA users in order to
meet the supplementary service recommendations stipulated in ITU-T Q.951~Q.957.
The CENTREX service is a service whereby some subscribers (in an Enterprise, for
example) in the local switching system are collectively taken as a basic user group,
forming a virtual PABX (Private Automatic Branch Exchange) and provided with PABX
services. At the same time these subscribers can avail themselves of some special
telecom services. So the CENTREX service can cater to the special requirements of
such user groups as Enterprises, Institutions, Hospitals, Government bodies,
Corporations, Hotels, Restaurants and financial Institutions.
IN services include IN services, such as ACC (Account Card Calling), VPN (Virtual
Page Number), NP (Number Portability) & IP (services provided through the SSP and
SCP) and compliant with ITU Q.1200-Q.1400. These services are described in the
following chapters.

Basic PSTN services are those basic call connection functions provided by switches,
including intra-office call, out-office call, incoming call, tandem call and remote user call.
The various types of calls are described in the following chapters and sections about
call processing.
Different countries and territories in the world may have different requirements for the
same PSTN supplementary service, and also different requirements for such aspects
as preference levels and compatibility between different services. To overcome these
problems, the C&C08 Switching System provides the following solutions.
