QUADRO® - THE ORIGINATOR, INVENTOR

AND INNOVATOR OF CONICAL MILLS

Model 196
Quadro® Comil®: Scale Up Reproducibility Whitepaper
Model U30
Scalability within Comil® models is ensured by maintaining key parameters
constant for all mills (from lab scale to larger production machines).

Equipment Tolerances – optimized tolerances between components

are maintained constant to ensure similar milling efficiencies
Model 197
Tooling Selection – the same screen hole diameters, screen hole
types and impeller profiles are available for all Comil® models to
ensure powders are exposed to the same milling forces Model 194
Model U20 Model U10
Impeller Tip Speed – maintained constant to ensure particles are
subjected to the same impact/attrition velocities Model SLS-U5

The ability to offer the same milling conditions, regardless of model, results in
repeatable and scalable particle size distributions (PSDs). The only variable left is
capacity, which increases or decreases proportionally to the screen volume. As
machines get bigger, the screens increase in size, but their 60O angle is constant.

Tip Speed Scale Up Calculations

As machines increase in size, screens are larger and impellers increase in
diameter. However, equipment RPMs are designed to ensure tip speeds
are kept constant.
