Deceptive Attack Ad
Rispone’s attacks on Abraham are blatantly false and
intentionally misleading
● THE FACTS: After his election to Congress, House Ethics ruled that Abraham
could no longer receive private income as a part-time practicing physician.
Despite this ruling, Ralph Abraham donated his salary to charity in his first term
of Congress. He and his wife, Dianne, have continued to give hundreds of
thousands of dollars to charity each year.
Ralph Abraham had the best attendance record of any member of the
Louisiana Congressional delegation before running for governor.
● RISPONE’S ACCUSATION: Ralph Abraham (missed more votes) than any other
congressman in America.
● THE FACTS: Before running for governor, Ralph Abraham had the best
attendance record of any member of the Louisiana congressional delegation. In
the 114th, Congress (2015-16), Abraham missed only 2 votes out of 1,325
(0.15%). In the 115th Congress (2016-18), Abraham missed only 18 votes out of
1,210 (1.49%). During his campaign, Abraham has missed less votes compared
to other Louisiana Congressman who have run for Governor like Buddy Roemer,
Bob Livingston, and Billy Tauzi. (Pro-Publica, 9/17/19).
● THE FACTS: Ralph Abraham was one of the first members of the Louisiana
congressional delegation to endorse President Trump, praising him as far back
as August 2015. He has been one of his most loyal and supportive allies in
Congress. (Daily World, Opelousas, LA. 21 Aug 2015, Fri, Page1; GOP delegation begins
rallying To Trump. The Town Talk, Alexandria, Louisiana. 08 May 2016, Sun. Page A3).
● THE FACTS: Ralph Abraham has consistently fought to fund a border wall in
Congress. He voted against the bills cited by Rispone because they either didn’t
provide enough funding for a border wall or they would have granted amnesty to
illegal aliens. Representatives Mike Johnson, Clay Higgins, and Garret Graves
also voted against at least one of the bills Rispone cites.
● RISPONE’S ACCUSATION: Ralph Abraham voted with Nancy Pelosi over 300
times.
● THE FACTS: The vast majority of the time, Abraham voted differently than
Nancy Pelosi. The votes referenced by Rispone were all nonpartisan and minor
issues like naming Post Offices. By comparison, in the Congress Rispone cites,
Pelosi agreed with Rep. Mike Johnson 323 times, Rep. Garret Graves 317 times,
Rep. Clay Higgins 321 times, and Rep. Steve Scalise - who was forced to miss
votes due to hospitalization following his tragic shooting - 263 times.
