SKY WARS

Water-bottle rocket
TYPE OF CONTEST: Team

COMPOSITION OF TEAM: Max 5 students per team

OVERVIEW
The mission is to design a water rocket vehicle
capable of reaching the highest altitude,
possible given specific launch criteria. While
promoting Space Propulsion Awareness, the
Water Bottle Rocket Competition serves
familiarize students with the basic principles of
rocketry, design engineering and
manufacturing engineering. Participants will
design and manufacture a water rocket using a
1.5/2.25 Liter bottle as the pressure vessel. The
rocket must be capable of launching from the
Water Rocket Launcher given specific launch
criteria.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

Rockets must have a total capacity of at least 1 Liter, but must not exceed 3.5 liters.
Rockets will be assembled on site, during the time allotted to them. Participants must bring
their own materials with which to build their rockets. Subject to availability, however,
participants may request standard items such as glue (Elfy, Samad bond, German White
glue, etc.) and tape from the Sky Wars representatives.
Note: No permanent joining facilities will be provided (Soldering, welding, brazing, etc.)
A launcher will be provided for rockets using a standard Pepsi bottle orifice and finish for a
nozzle. Participants wishing to design unique nozzles for their rockets must also design and
bring their own launchers with them.
Only air must be used to pressurize the rockets. Bicycle pumps will be provided to this end.
Water is the only liquid to be used in the contest. Each team must decide on the amount of
liquid to be used in their rocket.
Two trial runs will be conducted, and the results of both averaged.
