B.2 Drainage Pipes

Excavations

Prior to starting excavation for drainage pipe works, all necessary measures to keep the
excavation free from free-surface water of surface water run-off will be taken.
Temporary drainage will be made if its needed.

In areas of fill, filling will be compacted to a depth of one pipe diameter above the top
of the pipe before excavations begins. All excavation will be carried out so as to
minimize damage to existing surfaces.

Area of excavation will be protected from collapse by adequately support.

Bedding, Laying and Surrounding Pipes.

All pipe will be laid, using cradles if necessary, to true line and level as shown on
Approved Shop Drawings. After the Engineer has checked and approved the pipes and
joints, the concrete bedding and haunching or surrounding will be completed. Concrete
will be compacted below and around the pipe to the dimensions shown on Drawings.

Backfilling and Reinstatement

Backfilling will not be commenced until the concrete has achieved sufficient strength.
Backfilling will be done in accordance with the requirements of specifications.

B.3 U-Ditch

Excavations

Prior to starting excavation of foundations we will be:

- take steps to regulate the natural drainage of the water flowing on the surface of
the ground, to prevent flooding of excavations.

- ensure that all necessary site clearance and demolition in that area has been
performed base on equipment specification and safety regulations.

- Determine the location of existing utilities by dig the trial pits.

The excavation will be done at sufficient size to permit placing of structure foundation
of the full width and length. The side of excavation will be supported adequately.

Lay out

All work on U-Ditches, inlets, pipe headwalls and joint boxes will be set out carefully and
constructed with due recognition being taken of the fact that the upper surfaces must be

incorporated exactly curbs, footpaths, etc. Bottom surface of ditches will be smoothly
and neatly finished.

Cast in place concrete for waterways, drainage ditches, joint boxes, manholes, pipe
headwalls, inlet and outlet of waterways will be constructed according to the related
specifications.

Backfill and reinstatement

Backfill will be carefully made so as to obtain a bearing capacity equal to the adjacent
subgrade. In compacting subbase or base course in contact with drainage structure,
rammers or small compactor will be used and care taken to prevent damage to the
adjacent structures. Backfill will be constructed carefully so as to prevent erosion by
overflow of drain water or rain.

B.4 Box Culvert

Since the box culvert at STA 9+199 is the biggest one, we use this box culvert as typical
method. Plan lay out of box culvert STA 9+199 as shown on drawing below.
