 Project background
In this project, the overall objective of the action is therefore to support the RDPP in
contributing towards the creation of evidence-based, innovative and sustainable development
and protection solutions for refugees and their host communities in Bahrale and Aysaita districts
of Afar Regional State, and in doing so, providing alternatives to irregular primary and secondary
movements.

 Main Objective of the project


To contribute to create evidence-based, innovative and sustainable development and protection
solutions for Eritrean refugees and their host communities in Ethiopia with a particular focus on
Afar and the districts of Barhale and Aysaita.

 Specific Objectives of the project

1. To Improve social cohesion through improved access to integrated basic service delivery for
Eritrean refugees (in and out of camp) and their host communities in Afar
2. To improve livelihoods and employment opportunities for Eritrean refugees (in and out of
camp) and their host communities in Afar.
3. To improve protection of Eritrean refugees (in and out of camp) and host communities in
Afar, with a particular focus on vulnerable groups
4. To strengthen capacities of local authorities and multi-stakeholder coordination platforms
to cooperate in developing an integrated approach for refugees and host communities

1 Objective Training
70 house hold of berehalie wereda sebena demale kebele have full awareness about improved small
scale irrigation practice, especially in vegetable production marketing.

Baseline value: 210 households with in next 42 months

Target value: 70 households with in this production year 2018

2 Expected Results
The target 70 households are expected to guarantee:
1. Sustainable production, utilization and marketing of vegetable
2. adequate crop management knowledge
3. proper service delivery of the irrigation schemes to be implemented.

3 Methodology

Each beneficiary will be composed of five manageable groups. During the planned action, 2 days training
will be provided to the ssi beneficiaries. The training will be conducted in collaboration with the
respective woreda pastoral and agriculture offices.
The training is conducted at field level practically in asabolo and meglal villages which are irrigation sites
selected for the project implementation.
4 Activity
4.1 pre training activities
*preparing training materials and transported to site w/c is the training has been do.
*ready the field for practical training, check availability of water and others.
*other activities mandatory for training.

4.2 Training
The training is planned to be carried out for 2 days at each site of intervention in line with the wereda
experts and COOPI agro- engineer.
Main topics in the training
 Rational for establishing 5 manageable SAC groups.
 Announcing briefly the multipurpose of vegetables.
 Vegetable production and marketing, from land preparation up to market delivery.
 Relationships with Kebele , Woreda and COOPI experts with households .
 day-by-day management and monitoring of the irrigation scheme use agronomic practices.

4.3 Tools and materials hand-over


At the end of the training, the following tools and farm imputs will be handed over

4. 4 Monitoring and Reporting


Monitoring of the training will be undertaken by the assigned project staff. The trainer will have to
produce a report through which it can be understood the level of advancement in knowledge, the level
of participation and the acceptance of the standard guidelines transferred during the training.

After the training, post-monitoring activities will continue to support the work of SSI benificairies.
