FAST RETRACTION
The main piston can be rapidly retracted without pumping. Place both pump
and sockets in vertical position and spread plates, exposing wedge. Grasping
HydraWedge housing, push wedge against floor or any solid object. Piston will
slide freely into cylinder.
Caution: When attatching or removing the wedge, never use any type of
wrench or clamp on the main piston, as any damage to the surface will cause
injurious wear and oil leakage in HydraWedge!
ADDING OIL
When piston will not extend to full stroke, oil should be added. To add oil, first make sure piston is fully
retracted. Remove the 1/8 inch pipe plug in oil filler (11) at rear of the unit behind the sockets. Pour clean, good
grade SAE 20 motor oil in filler, simultaneously pumping the handle. Pumping will advance the piston and pull
the oil into the chamber. Continue adding oil until piston is fully advanced, then add a small surplus of oil,
completely filling the port. Loosely replace the pipe plug, allowing an escape passage for entrapped air and
surplus oil. Now place handle in opposite socket and retract the piston by pumping. When piston is fully
retracted, tighten pipe plug, sealing oil filler.
GREASING THE WEDGE
Wedge surfaces and metallic plates should always be kept greased. Use any good grade cup grease. This
attention reduces friction, insures easier operation and greatly reduces pumping effort.
TROUBLE SHOOTING
If unit refuses to pump, inspect check valves (73-1013) for contamination. These valves can be pulled by
removing pipe plug immediately in front of the socket being pumped.
After cleaning, if unit still refuses to operate, remove back cover and inspect ball check (75-1014) for
contamination.
When back cover is removed, check diaphragm for proper seating. A new diaphragm usually saves time and
insures original operating efficiency.
