BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

1. Introduction

There are a lot of parents that are struggling in supporting their children's education
because of the insufficiency of the income and the other financial capabilities in supporting the
need of the family. In addition, this kind of scenarios are very usual to the Philippines according
to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) (2017), as the increase of poverty incidence in the
year 2015 from the five basic sectors of the Philippines. Because of this, income would be one of
the focus of this study since it has an important role to the outcome of this research. Furthermore,
income is one of the determining factor of the financial capability of a family, therefore it
determines if the income salary of the parents is sufficient to support all of the financial needs of
each family member. However, the income salary of the parents is affected by several factors
and these factors would be briefly discussed in the latter part of this research.

Moreover, another focus of this study is about the education, most especially to the
educational performance of the student’s. Education has been one of the most important rights
that a child must receive from a parent. Unfortunately, many Filipino children are not performing
well in terms of their education which is being influenced by the income being generated by the
entire family.

The chosen problem is with regard to the educational performance made by the students
in Grade 12 HUMMS of AMA Senior High that is greatly influenced by the income generated
by the family where the student belongs. Likewise, the proponents of this research is to consider
the importance of distinguishing the effects of parental income to the educational performance of
the Student in the society because the educational performance has a great impact not only on the
stability of the children in terms of financial status in the future, but also to the betterment of the
economy. Moreover, this research aims to provide results that could be suggested in order to
disclose the problem being addressed by this study.
 Therefore, this research would give focus on determining the effects of the income waged
by the parents, to the educational performance of their children. All of the necessary data that
would be needed for this study shall be collected through conducting a survey using a research
questionnaire. The said research questionnaire shall be distributed to fifty (50) number of
students which would serve as the respondents for this research. In line with this, the chosen
respondents would be selected from HUMMS Grade 12 Students.

2. Statement Of The Problem

This research study entitled “A Research Study on the Effects of Parent’s Income to the
Educational Performance of the HUMSS Grade 12 Senior High students in AMA
Fairview.” seeks to answer the following questions:

2.1 What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of:

a. Gender

b. Age

2.2 What is the average annual income of the parents?

2.3 What is the relationship of income to parent’s perception of their children’s

educational performance?

2.4 What is the effect parental income to the educational performance of the children?

3. Research Objectives

At the end of this research study, the researcher aims to attain the following objectives:

3.1 determine the effects of the parent’s income to the educational performance

of the children.
 3.2 provide solutions for the educational performance of the children that is influenced by
the parent’s income.

3.3 promote the need of the Philippines to address the income problems of many Filipino
parents.

4. Significance Of The Study

The significance of this study is to prove that there is a significant relationship and
impact between the income that is being produced by the parents and the educational
performance that is being executed by their children. This study would show and help the target
respondents to fully understand about the immeasurable impact the parent’s income to the
educational performance of their children. This study is also significant since it could provide
probable solutions to the problem being addressed by this study. Furthermore, this study is
important in determining causes and giving solution to other problems that is related to the topic
of this study. Moreover, the results and solutions provided by this study could create a good
impact in the betterment of the Filipino community.

This study provides the following sectors opportunities and participative evaluation of
this study:

To the Students of Grade 12 AMA Senior high

After the research is finished, the students will be able to identify possible actions
concerning the effect of parental income to their educational performance. Through this research,
the students are expected to value the opportunities for their education that will benefit their
future.

To all the Parents of the Students of Grade 12 AMA Senior high

This research will provide the necessary information regarding the relationship and
impact of parental income to the educational performance of the children and the possibility of
having a financially stable life in the near future. The families will be given knowledge on how
to solve the issue being addressed by this study. Moreover, this research will serve as a guide on
what parents should do when their children’s educational performance is being affected by the
income generated by the parents.

To the other researcher who pursue the similar study

The research’s conclusions and results will serve as a basis of their further studies. Also
through this study, the advocates would be able to comprehend the precise way for researching
about certain problem, have an proficient knowledge on what a research study must encompass
and the adequate skills in researching which would be useful during the extent of this study and
in future conduction of researching in a different field.

5. Scope And Limitations

For the scope of the research, it will focus on the effects of the income wage by the
parents to the educational performance of their children, specifically in the HUMMS Grade 12
senior high that will include and require the information of the income generated by the parents
and the educational performance of the students. Furthermore, this study would give some
insights on the possible factors that could affect the income generated by the parents. This is to
deepen the understanding about the income generated by the household in order to have a better
support for the explanation in relation to the effects of parental income to the educational
performance of the children.The data shall be collected only based on some conditions that are
considered as a limitation for this study. Likewise, the data shall be tallied, tabulated, statistically
analyzed and intensely interpreted which will be presented using different charts and graphs.

This study focuses on the effects of parental income to their children’s educational
performance and accomplishment of the student in school. Also, the study would also tackle
some factors that affects the income of the parents such as educational attainment of the parent,
economic status of the country in which could deepen the understanding of the researchers for
this study.Other problems that are not relative to the effects of the income of a parent to the
educational performance of their children would serves as the boundary of the study.
