NCBTS
“National Competency-Based Teachers Standards”

I firmly believe that all teachers should have a continuous learning behaviour and that

they should not only serve as a role model for students but the embodiment of

education for the Filipino people as a whole. Having a standard in each step a teacher

will undergo will assure us that we could both increase the standard of education and

maintain the quality we pass on to the next generation. Further development or

upgrades in standard can now be easily be injected and identify as to where it should

be introduced and implemented. This is due to the singularity of the framework thus

recognizing the area to improve will not take long period of time and execution could be

abrupt. Raising the qualification in all phases of development could greatly affect the

output we have in our educational system and can produce a much competitive

professionals in the near future. In the end, not only will the students benefit from this

but the country as a whole in due time.

The development map for educators can help us better understand how NCBTS will

affect all stages the teachers should undertake. Not limiting its use to all government

bodies, this could also be criteria for NGO to follow. It could also be set as a gauge that

could define what criterion exceeds the norm and may cause a wave of change in the

entire professional life of all educators. Conflicts or unparalleled characterization of

standard can be reduces if not completely eliminated. Each domain in its structure

clearly identifies importance of constant and continues learning over and above their

duty of facilitating learning experience to learners. That may result as a powerful role

modelling for our future generation to pursue learning and improve their quality of life.

After recognizing and alleviating adequacy in the part of educators, we cannot disregard

the factor that affects both efficiency of teachers and the competency of students, and

that is the learning environment. Teachers can only do so much for their part but

facilities and learning materials are responsibilities of the government. Disregarding this

factor will only waste all efforts to improve our educational system. What will happen

inside the classroom is our responsibility as educators. Creating consistent learning

behaviour and addressing learning expectations to our students should be our goal

each day. Of course we have to embrace the diversity of each student’s capabilities and

ability to learn. This should be a way of life for all educators taking away partiality and

recognizing their differences will help us plan out how we can tackle each topic at hand.

Simultaneously, let us not forget to link the students’ experiences with our community in

order to build their aspiration and visualize their path to take.

Growth as a teacher can be a collaborative effort. One can’t have a domination of

knowledge but each can contribute to upgrade each other. As an educator myself, I will

contribute to the nobility of our profession and continuously value and have high

regards to develop our students, our future generation.
