ENGINE

Cummins 6 cylinders diesel engine, in line, water cooled, direct

injection, turbo charged and air to air after cooled. Four Stork

cycle is designed for long effective power strokes and more

efficient fuel combustion. These high torque engines provide

excellent fuel economy and durability, adding pushing power

and improving operating efficiency.

8
WORKING OF THE ENGINE

In a heavy vehicle the four stroke engine is used. The working of a four
stroke engine is given below:-

1. SUCTION STROKE:-

In this stroke the inlet valve remains open and exhaust valve

remains close. Air is sucked into cylinder as the piston starts to move

from top dead center to bottom dead center. As the piston moves, the air

enters in the cylinder.

2. COMPRESSION STROKE:-

In this stroke the both valve remains close. The piston moves from

bottom dead center to top dead center. In this stroke air get compress and

temp. of air increases to 1000C.

9
3. WORKING STROKE:-

At this temp. when fuel is in the form of fine spray, it begin to

burn. Hot gases produce which expand in the cylinder and exert pressure

on the piston, the piston begin to move from top dead center towards

bottom dead center and energy produced by hot gases is transferred to

flywheel through and do some useful work. At the end of stroke the

piston reached at bottom dead center.

4. EXPANSION STROKE:-

In this stroke the piston to move from bottom dead center to top

dead center and as it move in upper direction it compress the burnt gases

to move them outside. from cylinder. In this way the flywheel do some

useful work. At the end of stroke the piston reached to top dead center

and next stroke starts.

duty balance box, heavy duty roller chain transmission., Large

heavy duty axles protect internal components in harsh

environment and offer excellent serviceability and maintenance.

13
ROPS CABIN

Well designed diamond shape front tilting cab, with wide view vision,

good sealing, low noise, adjustable operation, radio, over head air

conditioner, ash tray and cup seat etc. The Rollover Protective Structure

(ROPS) is designed to meet ISO 3471-1994.

14
POWER SUPPLY

In alternating current the electron flow is alternate, i.e. the electron

flow increases to maximum in one direction, decreases back to zero. It

then increases in the other direction and then decreases to zero again.

Direct current flows in one direction only. Rectifier converts alternating

current to flow in one direction only. When the anode of the diode is

positive with respect to its cathode, it is forward biased, allowing current

to flow. But when its anode is negative with respect to the cathode, it is

reverse biased and does not allow current to flow. This unidirectional

property of the diode is useful for rectification. A single diode arranged

back-to-back might allow the electrons to flow during positive half cycles

only and suppress the negative half cycles.

15
OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT

Rops Cabin with Air Conditioning

Front dozer blade

Rear Scarifier

Automatic Leveling System

16
BATTERIES

Battery is electrochemical device which is used to store the electric

current in the form of ions.

The alternator produced current given to the battery and battery store this

current. And given when needed.

Battery gives current all electric appliance to working. It gives current to

self starter motor to start the engine

17
AIR CLEANER

In vehicle, Air cleaner is used to remove dirt particle and other particles

from air. Which is used for combustion the fuel inside the cylinder. It is

two types

1. Primary Aircleaner

2. Secondary Aircleaner

Firstly air from atmosphere inlet inside the primary air cleaner due to

motion of vehicle. Primary, air cleaner is used to remove most of dirt

particles. The air then;’ enters into secondary air cleaner, where it is

further cleaned and whole of impurities are removed from it. From

secondary air cleaner the clean air enter inside the turbocharger under the

force due to the centrifugal force to air chamber, from where it enters into

through inlet valve.

18
CARBURETOR

It consists of a float chamber, nozzle with metering orifice, venture and

throttle valve. The float and a needle valve system maintains a constant

height of petrol in the float chamber. If the amount of fuel in the float

chamber falls below the designed level, the float lowers, thereby opening

the needle of fuel supply valve. When the designed level has been

reached, the float closes the needle valve, thus stopping additional fuel

flow from the supply system. Float chamber is vented to the atmosphere.

19
SPARK PLUG

The spark plug provides the two electrodes with a proper gap across

which the high potential discharges to generate a spark and ignites the

combustible mixture within the combustion chamber.

A sectional view of a spark-plug is shown in fig. A spark plug consists

essentially of a steel shell, an insulator and two electrodes. The central

electrode to which the high tension supply from the ignition coil is

connected is well insulated with porcelain or other ceramic materials. The

other electrode is welded to the steel shell of the plug and thereby is

automatically grounded when the plug is installed on the cylinder head of

the engine. The electrodes are usually made of high nickel alloy to

withstand the severe erosion and corrosion to which they are subjected in

use.

20
CLUTCH

Clutch is a mechanical device which bike used to connect and

disconnect the power produced by engine

21
GASKETS

It is a sheet which is used for packing in between two machine

parts. The packing prevents the leakage between two assembly parts.

22
CONNECTING ROD

The rod that connect the piston to crank is known as connecting

rod. It is made of cast iron. It has two ends:-

1. Small end of the connecting rod

2. Big end of the connecting rod.

Small end of connecting rod is either solid eye type or split type.

This end is connected to the piston by means of gudgeon- pin.

The big end is split eye type and it connects the crank shaft's big

end. The standard length of connecting rod is one fit. It is made of

aluminum alloy or carbon steel.

23
BRAKE SYSTEM

16
LEATHER BRAKE:-

In leather brake shoe is connected to brake shoe assembly by mean of

aluminium rivets. Brake drum or wheel drum is connected to wheel as brake

paddle is pressed is pressed in hydraulic system the hydraulic fluid or sometime

24
air which is filled in side the cylinder causes to move the brake diaphragm as

the brake diaphragm moves it cause to move the cylindrical cam, as it move the

brake roller also move and with it the brake shoe assembly compressed against

the wheel drum due to friction between leather and wheel drum.

DISC BRAKE:-
It is used in light vehicle only in it some little holes is
provided on a circular plate of an alloy which is connected to the wheel of the
vehicle, when the brake is pressed the brake roller enters in the holes and
causes to wheel stop immediately this brake is used only in small vehicle only
because if it provides in heavy vehicle and they cause to stop immediately, a
great lose may be occurring.

25
CRANKSHAFT :-

It is the main shaft of the engine system which is transfer engine energy

for a place to other place.

CAMSHAFT:-

It is the shaft which are connecting to crankshaft and controlling to the

valves.

It is used to pump the water from lower tank of radiator to the

water jackets. It gets drive from engine.

26
CONSTRUCTION:-

 Water pump is centrifugal impeller water pump which cooling

water through the water paths provided in the crank case for

cooling engine.

 The pump shaft is supported on to bearing which are integral to the

shaft.

 Soal is provided between the impeller and housing.

 The revolution ratio of the crank pulley to the water pump pulley

which is 5.

27
FUEL SYSTEM IN DIESEL ENGINE

FUEL TANK:-

It is reservoir which contains fuel oil. In some vehicle it is placed

on its down side, then fuel pump is used to provide fuel for combustion

and in light vehicle it is on upper side, then there is no requirement of fuel

feed pump, fuel runs due to gravity.

FUEL FEED PUMP:-

The pump which lifts the fuel from fuel tank and supplies to fuel injection

pump is known as fuel feed pump. It is operated by cam shaft. This cam

shaft is operated by means of crank shaft of the engine. In heavy vehicle

the plunger type of feed pump is used.
