NOISE MEASUREMENT IMPACT AND

CONTROL
SETHUPATHI HR. SEC. SCHOOL
INTRODUCTION
• NOISE POLLUION IS ONE OF THE MAJOR
PROBLEM IN OUR SOCIETY
•LIMITATION OF NOISE VALUES IN VARIOUS
PLACES
• INDUSTRIAL ZONE - 75 dB
• COMMERCIAL ZONE - 65 dB
• RESIDENTIAL ZONE - 55 dB
• SILENCE ZONE - 50 dB
• NOISE POLLUTION CAUSES HEARING
LOSS,STRESS,SLEEP DISTURBANCES AND EVEN
HEART DISEASES.
AIMS OF THE PROJECT
•To measure the noise level in the school.
•To create awareness among the people in the
community.
•To find some possible methods to reduce noise pollution
in the school.
•To create the pollution less society.

MOTIVATION OF THE PROJECT
• Community always give more importance to the
air and water pollution but not noise pollution
because they were not aware of it, how it
harmful to us.
• students must know the harmful effects of noise
pollution so we choose a silent zone(sethupathi
school) because they will become a future pillars.
• Our target place is the 125 years old government
aided school at that time the school will be silent
zone but nowadays school is in the commercial
zone.
Data collection method:
•Time dependent graph - noise varies with time.
•Date dependent graph - noise varies with date.
Analysis of questionnaire: To identify the effects of noise
and the noisiest places in madurai.
Counting vehicles: Number of vehicles crossing the school
per five minutes.
Counting trees: To count the number of trees in the school.
Gps location: To find the boundary and area of the school.
FINDINGS
• From graphical analysis, mainly traffic zone affects the
school.
• In school, Quadrangle is more noisier than the
vinayagar block because of lower classes(6th to 8th).
• The ambient noise - 55dB.
• Inside the campus during break time the noise will
reach the maximum level.
• During exam time the noise level will not be high.
• From the questionnaire, Most noisiest place
• inside the campus – vinayagar block (6th to 8th )
• Outside the campus – main gate (traffic)
• In madurai - simmakkal
• students can’t able to concentrate on their
studies.
• It also causes health problems ,stress, irritation
and even heart diseases.
SUGGESTIONS
•School zone board and no horn symbol and no parking
board can be fixed in front of the school.
•More number of trees can be planted near the main gate
because there is a space for the garden
• Avoid parking of vehicles in front of the main gate.
• windows can be fixed in the classrooms at quadrangle
block because some of the classrooms does not have
windows.
•More number of students in small rooms can be
avoided or they can split into two classes because many
of the classrooms were closed.
REFLECTIONS
•At first, we were very much interested in doing the
project and to go for the school. As later, we were
very uncomfortable to go to the school.
•As most of us were studied in girl’s school , we
scared to interact with the boys but later we had
overcome that.
•This helped to remove our reservedness to face the
other genders.
•We were very enthusiasm to answer the questions
asked by the teachers , students and the publics.
• We did not have any hesitation because this project has
created courage for us.
• We learnt the efficiency of team work and how to
interact with the new community.
• Eventhough we face lot of difficulties, it taught us a
lesson that courage and hope shouldn’t give up at any
difficult circumstances.
• One of the favour in LFE is the group work.
• This type of project should be continued in more
effective ways, then there is a possibility of
pollutionless society
