1.

How do social and value factors influence or have an impact on curriculum or

educational program you are familiar with; which factors are negative and which are
positive?

Social factors influence every aspect of curriculum development, including the content covered,
media and and strategies used. The learner comes with a whole context around them: what they
like/don’t like, what they can do, what they respect, what technology they have access to. It’s a
huge factor that can make or break a curriculum. The social condition give negative impact on
curriculum educational program if between the learners and the teacher can not balance
everything happen in the world. From social factors itself, happen the development of the
curriculum, more over from the internet we can some information. If we as a teacher can not
control the students by the development of era, it will give negative influence for them. On the
other hand, value factors on curriculum help the teacher in making complete human beings not
just individuals. The lack of value is the major cause of unrest; newspaper headlines on the
assault cases and increasing number of old age support home are clearly an indication of wrong
in the society. The importance of honesty, hard work, respect for others, co-operation, and
forgiveness must be taught from the beginning of life. The educational institutions at all
levels(primary, secondary and Tertiary) should organize activities for social causes and motivate
students to participate actively. The values namely: Honesty, Responsibility, Respect,
Compassion have great importance in human life for living peacefully. Not only educational
institution but all the stake holders in the society work together to achieve the goal. It makes
value become the positive factor in curriculum.Because value, can control the students, teacher,
and all stake holder to be a real human not only in education but in society.

3. In 2013 curriculum, English is NOT taught in Elementary School as compulsory subject.

What is your opinion? Do you agree or disagree?

I disagree if English is not taught in Elementary School as compulsory subject, because study
English can be successful if it is taught from the earliest so that it can start from the elementary
school. If in the elementary school, English is not taught as compulsory subject the time of
teaching English is only 30 minutes. It is difficult to the teacher to explain the material related to
English and the students also can not explore their knowledge with limited time. In their eges,
the elasticity of their brain are still higher so that they are easily in master the language, likes
how to pronounce the word, remember the vocabulary and also listening and speaking. The
process of studying happen is caused of input in writing or oral. But not all input can be
processed by children. In order the input can be processed by them, input must be intake. And in
this age level, the children usually are not afraid or shy if they are making a mistake, by this
condition comprehensible input can be comprehended well. The students will difficult receive
input of language when they start to adult. Why some teachers in the Junior High School are
grumble when they are teaching English. They are difficult to teach the students in this age
level. In the level that age they have difficulty in focusing their brain in studying language. It is
why English must be taught as a compulsory subject in Elementary school.

5. Describe and identify the component of curriculum and the procedure of curriculum
development.

There are four components in curriculum, those are objective, contents/subject matter, a learning
, experiences and evaluation approach. The first time in constructing the curriculum is consider
the objective of the curriculum, objective the curriculum means the goals that the teacher should
be achieved in teaching learning process. After consider the goal, the next is find out
contents/subject matter suitable with the level of the students. Subject matter here, is the material
that should be taught for the students. In choosing the subject matter it must be suitable with the
condition of the students’ background knowledge and the level of the class. For example, in
vocational school it is different from the formal school. And also the material for Elementary
students, it must be structural in giving the material for them. By knowing the objective and
consider the subject matter the result of it, the learners get. The learning experience is the
program and how the interaction happen in which learning takes place. In this component, the
teacher try to make lesson plan before teaching the material. The teacher tries to find the way
how to teach the material well, in order the learners are easier in understanding the material is
given by the teacher. To know about the students’ understanding, the teacher will evaluate the
students at the end of learning process. The purpose of evaluation is to measure the students’
understanding about all materials have given to them.
6. Analyze the characteristic of language teaching model in 2013 curriculum, and give
critical comments.

Curriculum 2013 is a form of integrated work between reconstruction of passing grade

competence, suitability and adequacy, expansion, advancement of the materials, learning
revolution and evaluation reform. The essentials of curriculum 2013 are every subject supports
all competencies (attitude, skill and knowledge) where subject is designed tied one and another
and it has basic competence which is tied by the core competence of each class.Instructional
activities of all subjects have the same approach, that is scientific through observing,
questioning, associating, experimenting, and networking. By understanding those scientific
approaches and know how to apply it in the classroom, the teachers can play their roles during
teaching and learning process. Because curriculum 2013 is based on process oriented, not
product oriented.

7. Explain the very basic differences between 2013 curriculum and the previous
curriculum, in terms of the goal, evaluation, and teaching approach.

Here is some differences between curriculum 2013 and the previous curriculum. In curriculum
2013 aspects of the competence of graduates there is a balance of soft skills and hard skills and
knowledge. Different with the previous, is more emphasis on the knowledge. Also in curriculum
2013 the learning process of each theme in elementary school and all the subject in the Junior
High School/ Senior High School done with a scientific approach, which is standard in the
learning process consist of observe, rework, ask, present, summed up, and create. Differently,
standard in the learning process consist of exploration, elaboration and the confirm. In
curriculum 2013, demand or majors from class X but in previous starting XI. In addition, in the
curriculum 2013 has KI 1,KI 2, KI 3, and KI 4 which make this curriculum different from the
other previous curriculum.KI 1 is about spiritual, KI 2 about social, KI 3 about knowledge, and
KI 4 about skill. And in teaching learning process the teacher must fullfil the material by four
those aspects. Of course, any differences will be to educate students for better conditions.
9. Every curriculum has general goal. Mention and explain the basic consideration or
factors that should be taken into account in order to formulate rational goals
the goals education can be conceived in terms of the life activities of humans adults in society.
These activities may generally be placed in three categories, occupational, citizenship, and self-
fullfilment. To achieve the goals, there are the consideration to formulate rational goals, the
school’s program provides experiences leading to self realization, the school seeks to promote
human relationship, consider the school is development of skills of learner that will lead to their
country’s and their own economic efficiency, students will develop a sense of civic
responsibility. By considering its, hope can be contribution to develop of the individual can be
both an educational aim of society and a curriculum goal of particular school or school system.

10. There are components of curriculum that should exit; these component have close
relation or interrelated to each others unified system; question: explain this statement.
Components in curriculum are objective, content, subject matter, and learning experiences.
Those are four components should be unified system because four of them can be separated.
Before teaching the material the teacher must know the objective of teaching the material, and
know the content from what will he teach. The instructional and method will put into action the
goals and use contents of subject matter in order to produce outcome and learning experiences
for the learners. And in designing the subject matter, we must know about the contents and the
objective from the curriculum itself, so that the purpose can be achieved.

11. Some of the principles of curriculum development are breadth, progression, depth,
coherence, relevance; question: explain this statement
The curriculum as an education plan which summarize all the students’ needs at school.
Curriculum as a tool to reach the goals of education which is dynamic. It means that the
curriculum must follow the changing of time and its followed by the development of knowledge
and technology and also the society. The changing of time gives influence for the learner’s need
and the teacher’s need. It makes the curriculum is based on the principles of curriculum
development. It is done in order to give the result of its development appropriate with the
interest, ability, students’ need, environment, country’s need, so that it makes the education
process effective to reach the goals. In designing the curriculum must be relevance with value in
society in order that the students not only get knowledge but they have skill in the future.. It
makes the curriculum become flexible in the field
