STRATEGIES
How technology can help

RETRIEVAL PRACTICE
Repeated recall (in spaced sessions) helps
memory consolidation and makes the neural
pathway more efficient each time. Retrieval
practice moves knowledge from short-term
to long-term memory, so it can be used for
thinking. TECHNOLOGY: Applications that
help "quiz" you are effective.

SPACED PRACTICE
It's more effective to study a little at a
time each day than to cram it all in at
once. Review material that you've
learned a while after learning it, then
review it again later on, but not just by
reading. Use retrieval practice.
TECHNOLOGY: applications that use
algorithms to help space out practice
are effective.

METACOGNITION &
FEEDBACK
Learning is more effective when you
think about your learning. Plan, assess,
adjust, and be involved with your
learning process.
TECHNOLOGY: applications that
scaffold the learning process are super
effective. Programs that give you
feedback are helpful too.

DUAL CODING
Learning is more effective when you
combine words and meaningful visuals.
This provides two ways of
understanding the material.
TECHNOLOGY: Applications that allow
for presenting visuals with text, or apps
for visual note taking or visual
storytelling.
