) Description of the Event, Objectives, Participants

Culture is a strong part of people's lives. It influences their views, values, humor,

hopes, loyalties, worries and fears. Witnessing our very own Tausug exhibit namely,

TINDUG TAUSUG, may help people understand and learn more about its culture.

This exhibit is brought by Doce Quince organization which is consisting of

different presentations like showcasing of Pangalay, the traditional “fingernail” dance of

the Tausug people, singing, literary work, food, and clothing that may enable the guests

and participants to understand and be aware of the culture of Tausug people.

This native tribe, the first group in the archipelago to be converted to Islam,

possess a courage that is beyond doubt, their bravery is supposed to be unquestionable,

therefore the Tausug are often named Tau Maisug or brave people.

Hence, the name “TINDUG TAUSUG” that wishes to say that Tausug people

should stand up for themselves since they are already proud of their different beliefs and

practices because they are proud Muslims renowned for their fierce resistance in the

face of Spanish Conquerors. The Tausug regards themselves superior to other

Philippine Muslims and still live a combative way of life, running away from a fight is

considered shameful. One old Tausug proverb says: “Hanggang maybuhay, may pag

asa” meaning; Never admit defeat as long as you live. This exhibit wants to enforce that

proverb more and make the Tausug culture be more alive and be more known in our

world as of today.

• To showcase talents and skills of the different performers specifically the song

and dance performers.

• To hold a successful and well-planned exhibit.
