In its fifth year, the Colorado Environmental Film Festival will bring 45 enlightening films from around the world to Golden, Colo. this November
for a three-day event covering a range of unique topics from the end of the world to exotic animals kept in suburban dwellings.

Taking place this Nov. 4-6 at the American Mountaineering Center, 710 10 th St., the Colorado Environmental Film Festival (CEFF) aims to not
only bring underground independent environmental films into the light, but also to educate the public on a wide variety of environmental issues
with the goal of inspiring passion and change.
"I want people to walk away changed, stimulated and motivated," said Dave Steinke, co-chair of the CEFF Committee and a spokesman for the
U.S. Forest Service in Colorado."I want people to walk away from this festival thoughtful in their thinking about the environment."
The festival itself started as the brainchild of Shawna Crocker who had attended the coveted Environmental Film Festival in Washington, D.C. six
years ago.Crocker came back inspired, and founded the Colorado Environmental Film Festival. From humble beginnings as a film festival with
only a handful of films and about 50 attendees, CEFF has grown to become the largest environmental film festival between the coasts, with an
expected attendance this year of about 2,000.It is presented by the Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education.
Featured this year is a film by Norwegian native filmmaker Tonje Schei that will include a question-and-answer forum with the film's
creators."Play Again" documents the consequences of a childhood removed from nature by following six teenagers who spend five to 15 hours a
day in the virtual world."Play Again" takes the teens on their first wilderness adventure and documents the experience.
"I see the incredible benefits of our information society, but in our excitement and consumption of technical progress we are cutting ourselves off
from the basics," Schei said in a statement."As our children play more in front of screens than outside we face an alarming and potentially
dangerous imbalance between the natural and virtual worlds."
Unlike other film festivals, CEFF is hosted in an intimate setting that allows attendees unprecedented access to the film's makers and
creators.Sessions specifically geared towards children are also planned.
The festival this year will feature 45 films encompassing six countries and 16 states. The films range from two minutes to just under two
hours.Five productions are directly from Colorado.
The film festival begins Thursday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.Tickets cost $5 per session.Tickets can be purchased online at www.CEFF.net, or at REI
locations.
