On-the-Job Training is part of a college curriculum that aims to train and orient students
about the work and their future career. It is a type of skill development where the student learns
how to do the work through hands-on experience. On-the-Job Training is one method by whicg
students are exposed with different work situation designed to give students an opportunity to
experience and a chance to apply the theories and computation that they have learned from school.
It also helps the students to acquire relevant knowledge and skills by performing in actual work
setting.

As one of the fourth year students taking up Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
in the College of Engineering, Architecture and Fine Arts, I have been able to grab the opportunity
to actually apply my academic training experience for 500 hours to the workplace experience on
the real world. My objective was to be able to obtain an On-the-Job Training position where I can
employ my knowledge and experience with the intention of securing a professional career with
opportunity for challenges and career advancement, while gaining knowledge of new skills and
expertise. With this goal in mind, I pursued my application at Batangas II Electric Cooperative,
Inc. Fortunately, my application was accepted. I was assigned in Padre Garcia Unit.

Summary of Duty

Week 1, February 6 – 8, 2019

Before starting my actual training, Ms. Rachael Marasigan, ASD Manager of Batangas II
Electric Cooperative, Inc. gave orientation about governing policies of the company on February
4, 2019. She also gave an overview on how our training will be like. I actually started my On-the-
Job Training in Batelec II – Padre Garcia Unit on February 6, 2019. I was introduced and
welcomed where I met Mr. Rodel Adam, foreman of the Padre Garcia Unit. He gave me an
orientation regarding the duties and responsibilities I have been tasked as their trainee.

I was immediately assigned to be one of the field workers. I was trained in different

advised the consumers about the upcoming power interruption. After, we fixed the defective
electrical line in Quilo-Quilo.

My schedule starts from 8:00 in the morning and ends in 5:00 in the afternoon, Monday to
Friday, but because of being assigned in field works I was expected to arrive earlier and leaves
later. My first week at Batelec was personally motivating and enhancing. I was able to apply my
skills and knowledge acquired in school. I was exposed on field works, connection and
disconnection of meters, clearing of electricity lines, tapping and relocation of lines, replacements
of cut-off fuse, public announcements, etc. I met different clients or in Batelec we called them as
consumers about their complaints and requests for their satisfaction. I learned that their comments
and suggestions are really important for the growth of the company.

The following are my accomplishments and contribution from my On-the-Job Training at

Batangas II Electric Cooperative, Inc. – Padre Garcia Unit:

 Persuade consumers to surrender their illegal connection and be in a legal one

 Conducting public announcements regarding power interruptions, this helps to lessen the
irritation of consumers
 Making our consumers satisfied with our services, hearing their suggestions and
expectations of the outcome
 Being hospitable and easy to talk to when there are consumers who have inquiries
 Learned how to perform different electrical works like:
o Replacement of circuit breaker
o Surveying and inspection of electricity poles
o Connection and disconnection of meter
o Clearing
o Electrical coupling
o Tapping
o Repair and fixing of electrical connection
o Troubleshooting
o Fixing and relocation of electrical poles
o Mounting of transformer, arrester and cut-off fuse
o Erection of gying and poles

My knowledge and expertise grew because of my training in Batelec II. I learned how to
deal with different problems and how to become an efficient individual in a workplace. The
experiences I have made in Batangas II Electric Cooperative, Inc. – Padre Garcia Unit served as
one of my motivations to improve myself. I have to be a better Electrical Engineering student in
order to be a successful professional in the near future.
