• Do First:
The warm up will be learning different dance moves from different cultures. This will help the
kids moving and be able to learn about the lesson.
• Mini-lesson:
The goal is to understand what culture the student comes from and understand that the classroom
is made up of different cultures. This will be with the help of family history. One family member
is allowed to come and help contribute to the students lesson. The focus will then turn towards
the puppet and the puppet’s story. The puppet will represent the student and talk about the culture
the classify themselves with.
• Guided Practice:
The teacher will build their own puppet to demonstrate for the class. The students can help to
participate in what colors and styles to use according to the culture. This will help for the teacher
and the student to show that they understand the lesson. The teacher will then describe what story
they will put on or what the puppet will provide for their culture.
• Independent Practice:
The student will be given their own paper bag to decorate for their puppet. Each table will be
provided with the material for the students to share. The family members can help guide to create
a puppet that well suits the student. The student should do all the construction on their own.
They should have done research before the construction of the puppet to help create it.
When the students are ready, they will show off their puppets to the class. They will tell a story,
do a dance, sing a song, or bring something from their culture.
• Exit Slip:
The classroom will go over all the different cultures that make up the classroom. The puppet’s
culture will be shown on the classroom map to remind the students that classroom is diverse.

5. Reflection:
The lesson plan is a simple and creative way to get the classroom to understand different cultures
around the world. It is enticing the students to use their mind and create a character that
represents themselves. They are then able to relate with the other students on where their
creations come from. The lesson plan is designed for younger classrooms. It would not translate
as well into higher grades because of the simplicity. It is designed to get the student thinking
about others and themselves as a whole.
The student will be able to use their Auditory, Kinesthetic, and Visual learning styles. The lesson
plan is designed with all three learning styles in mind to create an easy time for the students to
just create what they feel is right.
