The service-learning I choose was to be held at Discovery Children’s Museum. I wanted
to learn how to handle a large group of students at once in a learning typesetting. This museum did just that. They offer a place where students can go and be free to explore. They were supervised by many workers and volunteers throughout the museum. There were also Early Childhood parts for children under 5 that were able to still explore at their pace. The volunteer time consistent a lot of attention and picking up. The main training consisted of one day. They described the museum and its purpose. There was then a walkthrough and a brief about each exhibit. There are three levels and two rotating exhibits. There is also training throughout the volunteer process. I went to an Early Childhood Training and will be continuing on training with the museum. Each exhibit had at least one worker and volunteers where needed most. This is a great opportunity for students in high school who want to pursue a creative or teaching future. The museum offers a program called Youthworks for students. They are able to work enough credits to become an intern with the museum. This program also offers help with college and job training for the future. Discovery Children’s Museum is a great place for me to continue volunteering. I want to interact and be involved with students to create a successful career. This is the best orderly, safe, and fun environment where that can happen. The staff is there to learn and help grow the reputation the museum has to offer.
