Action Research Question

How important is the DEAR Program (Drop Everything and Read)

to the pupils of San Miguel Elementary School in improving the

reading skills and reading habit of the pupils?

Research Plan

The San Miguel Elementary School plan to have a DEAR Program

(Drop Everything and Read) every Monday morning at exactly 10 A.M.

Pupils and teachers are instructed to stop everything they do

in order to read for at least one hour. This activity is not an

extra burden to teachers because they need not to jot down nor

list down in a record book. They can either get the story or

selections from the book or any instructional materials use in

reading.

In this DEAR Program the pupils reading skills and habits

will be develop that there is such pupils who are non- reader when

they reach in grade III.


Data Gathering: Survey Result in Conducting Reading Assessment
Data Analysis and Interpretation:

Based on the data presented, the very slow and slow pupils of

San Miguel Elementary School were lessen while the very fast

reading level obtained a high average and the fast reading level

obtained the highest average.

Research Findings, Conclusion and Recommendation

Victor Hugo, Les Miserables, opined that “To learn to read is

to light a fire; every syllables that is spelled out is a spark”.

In this action research we found out that implementing the

DEAR Program (Drop Everything And Read Program) can enhance the

pupils reading skills and habit that they turn to love in reading

books and other reading materials.

Therefore this program was effective in improving the reading

skills and reading habits of the pupil in San Miguel Elementary

School. That this is very applicable to other schools who has a

problem in the reading skills and reading habits of their pupil.
