the sustainability of the client is the sustainability of the organization. Farz foundation has also
convicted to bring social change with poverty alleviation. MURABAHA (Islamic mode of sale

Microfinance Focus, Aug 4, 2010: The real figures would only emerge when the flood waters recede from the cities and villages
of Pakistan, but it is being feared that millions of small and medium businesses have been ruined. This makes the task of
microfinance providers all the more important. The overall recession coupled with this destruction will plunge millions more into
poverty.

Relief efforts are immediately needed but in the aftermath of flood, millions more would need the restoration of their businesses.
So far, for the lack of documentation, it is almost impossible to ascertain the extent of loss.

The Farz Foundation is eager to train the human resource and suggests to simultaneously launch relief and business restoration
activities. This also requires us to bridge the development sector and microfinance as it can achieve required sustainability as
well. The Farz Methodology is also in line with the cultural and religious sensitivities of the hard hit area of Khyber
Pakhtoonkhwah.

Owing to fund restraints, Farz Foundation can at least provide training to those who have resources to fight the outcome of this
natural calamity.

RELIEF OPERATIONS
The Jhang is the area where two rivers River Chanab and Jehlam joined with each others. It was
the neglected most flood hit area of the crisis. Government, media and society could not pay their
attention timely at the area. Farz Foundation got the credit of highlighting the devastation made
by the flood, when River Chanab stopped the River Jehlam at Trimo and both of the rivers got
high and waters rush to the populated area of Tehsil Atthara Hazari. The flood surrounded the 49
villages in all of a sudden.

Farz Foundation turned the consideration of the concerned authorities, media and civil society
and started the relief operations immediately by establishing a base camp at Moza Jabboana and
a central medical camp at Moza Binda jabboana.

Farz foundation has made the relief efforts worth more than 5 million rupees by the cooperation
of civil society and partner organizations and it is going on with a continuous endeavor till the
time.

than 42 countries worldwide.
j
ACTION AID PAKISTAN was formed in 1992. Since its inception, it has been working in
partnership with local civil society organizations, Community groups and marginalized people to
fight poverty and violation of human rights. ACTION AID PAKISTAN lays emphasis on
challenging patriarchy and inequity, and promoting democratic, accountable and responsive
governance.

ACTION AID PUNJAB chapter has facilitated Farz Foundation by providing transport services
to carry the relief stuff from different Lahore to Jabboana camp office of Farz Foundation.

FM Radio 95 Lahore
RADIO FM 95 PUNJAB RANG which is a part of Punjab Institute of Language Art and Culture
Government of Punjab Province has made tremendous effort to motivate the community of
Lahore and surroundings to help the flood victims. Thousands of listeners including children and
women came out of their houses and rush to the radio station with food stuff, clothes filtered
water, medicines and cash etc. to help the flood victims through their favorite radio station. Farz
Foundation has launched an awareness and motivational campaign on the radio by devoting the
Pakistan’s most popular radio show, ”WARIAM SHOW”, which broad casts under the presenter
ship of Farz Foundation’s staff consisted of The CEO, GM operations and the legal advisor.

Farz Foundation ensured the delivery of relief stuff to the actual victims timely and smoothly by
a strong monitoring plan and action, implemented through the partners and facilitators and an
efficient reporting system.

The Chairman Board of advisors Farz Foundation Mr. Faisal Khan Jabboana, Provincial
controller Action Aid Mr. Daud Saqlain, President Nazeeran Yousaf Trust Mr. Haji Lateef, Ms.
Sofia of Global Pakistan and the CEO of Farz Foundation Mr. Farhat Abbas Shah supervised and
monitor the operations personally by visiting the places, meeting with the victims and
supervising the relief activity.

CHALLENGES
1. The biggest challenge, Farz Foundation faced was transport. Due to lake of
organizational transport vehicles, foundation has to make arrangements to hire transport
services even for human resource movements. It was really a challenge to move in
emergency on odd timings.

2. Due to hesitation and a discouraging behavior of the donor organizations working in

Pakistan to develop new and transparent new partnerships without any previous
connection is still a big and tough challenge for Farz Foundation being a young
organization of one year registered period. Farz Foundation is able to do a lot more than
it has done with limited resources but through an enthusiastic, committed, hardworking,
visionary and innovative leadership and human resource it has delivered a lot with
efficiency and efficacy.
FUTURE PLANS
Farz SME Village
Farz Foundation has announced Farz SME Village to rehabilitate the flood victims by providing
them productive homes, where they could start their economic activity and establish their
sustainable businesses.

In this regard the Foundation has laid the foundation stone of its first SME village where it will
build 20 homes along with various businesses. The foundation intends to replicate such villages
in flood hit areas.

A ceremony was held here where Faisal Khan Jabbooana was also present who donated 4 acres
of land for Tributes were also paid to the management of the Farz Foundation that vowed to
complete this project at the earliest.

FF is focusing on the strategy that building such villages is the need of the hour to retrieve the
situation after the flood, where the tunnel forming would be being introduced immediately to
facilitate those who lost their land. FF has a strong belief that through building and replication of
such model villages, we can fight hunger, disease, and turn Pakistan into a country of
entrepreneurs. The project also has a great commercial potential generally at the international
level and particularly in Pakistan in the current situation. The project can initiate a sustainable
economic activity at a larger scale, because it involves the real estate, land development,
housing, SME, micro entrepreneurs, Green revolution, environment, Solar energy, water
filtration, live stock, agricultural, import export, etc. The social investors can show their interest.
We would appreciate a sole partnership as well as individuals in case of different investors for
different businesses.

CLEAN WATER PROJECT FOR FLOOD VICTIMS

FF is also committed to provide water filtration plants by the cooperation of international NGOs
for the flood hit areas, where the victims have to drink polluted water. Farz Foundation aims to
install more than five plants at different places of Pakistan.
