Task 1:
Read aloud the following conversation. Take turns with your classmates doing the roles.
Then, answer the questions following that.

A. A doctor and a nurse are talking about their plans. Pay attention to the
pronunciation and intonation of the dialogue below.

Nurse: “Good morning Sir, I am going to tell you about the condition of patient on behalf
Budi”
Doctor: “Ok nurse, how his condition? Is there any problem?”
Nurse: “Yes Sir, he felt pain in his left abdomen. “
Doctor: “What are you going to do with that condition?”

Nurse: “Well, I am going to give her the medicine sir. Is there any additional medicine for

Doctor: “Oh Sure. Thank you for the nice discussion. I am going to check the patient in
room 203 now. Good morning”
Nurse: “You’re welcome and good morning sir.”

In daily life, it is common for us to tell other people about our intention or plan to do something
in the future. We also frequently ask them, or they ask us about that. For telling our intention

or plan, we can use be going to + simple form of the verb and would like to + simple form of
the verb, and we use the statement form. For asking, we use the question form. Read again the
dialogue between the doctor and the nurse in this chapter to see how the expressions are used
in conversation.

SPEAKING

Task 1:
Make up short dialogues for the following situations. Read the answer of number 1 as an
example.

1. A nurse plans to help a doctor to do a surgery for a patient who suffers from cancer in the
surgery room. She asks the doctor about what she should prepare.
A: We are going to have a surgery for the patient in room number 309 who suffers from
cancer.
B: Alright, doc. What should I prepare for this surgery?

2. I plan to meet a doctor in the hospital to check my condition after suffering from fever. I ask
