GED1113 – Sec 2 (Block 1)

The Development of the Philippines throughout the year

Do you think our country is developing? Do you think our government is doing their part
in developing our own nation? Lastly, are we doing our part as Filipinos who are part of this
country? These are the question that we cannot easily answer without the proper knowledge
about how far our government do their task and promises when they are being elected by the
voters.

As our country’s continuous development, from the old way of farming of having manual
labour, Technology was introduced in the field of Agriculture in the Philippines which leads to
the farmers to have a higher productivity. It made their job be much easier. According to
(Mogato, 2019), our government and some private factors gave an action about the sufficiency of
food here in our country. New technologies in farming have been introduced. Some of these are
innovative farming technology and techniques and hybrid seeds. Solar-powered irrigation was
also introduced. To make the smaller-scale farming be easier, Department of Agriculture also put
drones to monitor the crops that can also produce fertilizers and pesticide. In addition, According
to (Baguio, 2018), Department of Agriculture gave farmers the equipments and farm implements
that worth 102 million pesos to higher productivity. As we can see, with the help of new
technology in our Agriculture there are developments made but it is limited only for those
farmers who can afford modern equipments. On the bad consequence of these improvements and
innovations in Agriculture, there are some farmers who cannot afford to buy machineries and
they stick on the manual labour and not all the farmers are given a chance to have machineries
from the government. Aside from having lack of equipments, government does not take the right
action in the issue of the price of the rice. According to (Rivas, 2019), the price of the unhusked
rice is lower than the production cost that is why our farmers are crying. Some retailers do not
but on the local farmers instead they are just importing goods from the other countries. That is
why the farmers are having their proposal to our government aiming to increase the floor price
higher than the production cost.

When it comes to education we can say that we are already aligned in the curriculum of
other country. According to (Labrador, 2015), K-12 was signed by former President Noynoy
Aquino in year 2013. In addition, Psychological Association of the Philippines stated that K-12
was designed to enhance and develop the skills of every Filipino student. In this curriculum, it

also helps the students to plan and think for their career path. K-12 gives guidance and help to
the students in decision-making when it comes to their career goals. It was implemented for us to
be globally competitive. The government said that students can already work after they
graduated in Senior High School. On the other side, According to (Ragaza, 2012), there is still
some bad consequences occur. The expenses of the parents despite of having free education in
public schools such as allowances, transportation and school supplies will be a burden for them
by adding two years in high school but even if they graduated in Senior High School they cannot
still be employed because employers still looking for a college graduate with an experience.
College is inaccessible for many fellow Filipinos. It may not have tuition fee not all students
have a chance to enter in these kinds of schools like Polytechnic University of the Philippines
and University of the Philippines if they are not smart enough?

These are just only some developments here in our country but there are still bad sides on
it. Farmers should have the right to earned because they are the one who are producing our basic
needs. Government should take an action especially on the imports of rice because there is an
issue called rice liberalization where in they support import rice than local ones. On the other
hand, our education system has a great objective but is not well-planned. Government should
improve the curriculum because we cannot remove it anymore. It only needs an enhancement to
produce future professionals.
