1. SCOPE0B

This specification covers the minimum requirements of design, manufacture, inspection


and testing for purchasing conventional valves to be used on Process &Utility piping and
pipeline networks system in NGL 3100 Plant.

2. TERMS AND DEFINITIONS

5. ORDER OF PRECEDENCE
In the case of conflict between documents relating in the inquiry or order, the following

In case of conflict between data sheets and specifications/Standards, Vendor shall inform
the EPC Contractor for resolution. No action can be taken prior to EPC Contractor’s
approval.

6. GUIDELINE
N/A.

7. ENGINEERING DATA
7.1 General Requirements
- Any deviation from the requirements of this specification shall not be permitted
without contractor’s written approval.

- Any conflict between the requirements of this specification and the related codes
and standards shall be referred to Contractor for clarification before proceeding
with the manufacturing of the concerned item.

- The Vendor/Manufacturer shall respect the requirements of this specification and


the relevant documents, codes and standards. The compliance to this specification
does not release the Vendor/Manufacturer’s responsibility relating to the
compatibility of the supplied valves to meet the specified service conditions and
related standard.

- The Vendor/Manufacturer shall provide a free access for the inspector appointed by
Contractor to perform any inspection deemed as necessary.

- The Vendor/Manufacturer shall have, at its usual practice, a Quality Assurance


Program proving with the support of a documentary evidence that the used
materials, design, manufacture, examinations and testing of valves are conformable
to specifications and requirements of corresponding requisition and purchase order.

- The Vendor/Manufacturer shall submit, for contractor approval, its quality


assurance program, welding procedure specification (WPS), procedure qualification
record (PQR), quality control plan (QCP) and quality test plan schedule, Vendor
drawing, Manufacturing Program.

- In the case of “SOUR SERVICE” conditions, the respective material shall follow
requirements of NACE standard MR-01-75 and requirements of “Specification for
Piping Material Requirements in Wet Sour Service”

- Specific Engineering Data for each valve are listed on the Valve Project
Specification for each category of valves attached to the Request for Quotation
and/or Purchase Order.

7.2 Supply of Drawings

Dimensional drawings including Spare Parts Lists shall be furnished for the following:
- All standard and non-standard valves, showing the dimensions of the valves and
all details of the internals, together with detailed listing of all valve parts and
their material specifications. Each drawing shall include Manufacturer’s Type or
Figure number and must also include Valve Code and the Purchase Order
Number.
- Gear operators (if applicable) showing the dimensions and details of the
internals, together with detailed listing of the internal parts and their material
specifications. Each drawing shall include Manufacturer’s Type or Figure
number.
- Spare parts list

7.3 Installation Instruction

The vendor shall provide manufacturer’s Instructions for installation, disassembly and
re-assembly of valves shall be included. A list of manufacturer’s recommended
replacement parts shall be furnished if disassembly is required.

8. MATERIALS

8.1 General
- The specification of valves material shall conform to the material requisition and
data sheet for valves.
- Unless otherwise specified, all materials shall conform to the requirements of
ASTM standards.
- Any substitutions of specified material and rating shall not be permitted without
contractor’s written approval.
- All materials shall be new and interior and exterior surface shall be free of dirt,
sand, debris and excessive rust.

8.2 Carbon steel valves

The carbon steel used for the fabrication of the valves shall be manufactured by open
hearth, electric furnace or by the basic oxygen process.

Carbon Steel to ASTM A105, Low Temperature Carbon Steel to A350-LF2 Cl 1 shall be
supplied in the normalized condition.

All carbon steel valve bodies and bonnets for low temperature services, -29°C and
below, shall undergo toughness testing in accordance with the requirements of the
contract reference codes and standards.

Additionally, carbon steel valves with welded ends (either butt-weld or socket-weld
ends), or for which welding is used as part of the fabrication method (e.g. end flanges
welded to the body, or welded body, etc.) shall comply with the following chemistry
requirements, based on ladle analysis of the carbon steel materials used for the
construction of the valves (this does not apply to weld overlays)

a) Carbon Content: The carbon content shall be less than 0.23 %


b) Carbon Equivalent: The Carbon Equivalent, calculated using the formula:

CE = C + + + Shall be less than 0.42 %.

If the content of alloying elements other than C or Mn is unknown, and with the prior,
Mn
the formula to be used shall be: C E = C + and, in this case, the carbon equivalent

shall be less than 0.40 %.

8.3 Austenitic stainless steel valves


For Austenitic stainless steel valves the valve bodies and bonnets shall undergo a heat
treatment ("Annealing") in accordance with the corresponding ASTM standards.

8.4 Low temperature material


Low temperature materials shall be subjected to charpy impact test as per appropriate
codes.

8.5 Stem seals and/or packing


Valve stem seals and/or pickings specified are as follows:
- The design of flexible graphite packing systems shall conform to MSS-SP-120.
- Flexible graphite packing shall be pre-compressed graphite with low leachable
chlorides. End rings shall be braided graphite. The packing shall contain the
manufacturer’s standard number of rings. Vertically split packing is not acceptable.
- The packing assembly shall contain a dispersed passive corrosion inhibitor to
minimize stem pitting caused by the galvanic corrosion set up in a wet valve
packing chamber. Inhibitors in end rings are also required.

8.6 Valve Trim


In order to prevent galling of parts in contact with one another there must be differences
in hardness between stems and mating parts for all trim materials. Where this differential
is not possible due to the metallurgy of the trim, one of each pair of mating surfaces
shall be hardfaced to provide the hardness differential. Hardness differential is not
required when both surfaces are hardfaced.

8.7 Body, Bonnet and cover gaskets


- Bonnet gaskets shall have corrosion resistance equal, at least, to that of the body
and bonnet material.
- Unless otherwise specified in the purchase description, the bonnet or cover gasket
shall be the manufacturer’s standard. The gasket shall be consistent with the valve
body material and full pressure-temperature rating of the valve.

- If metal ring type gaskets are required they shall be of a softer material than the
valve body

8.8 Bolting
All alloy steel bolts/nuts shall be hot dip galvanized as per ASTM A153.

Body bolting material shall be equal to superior than that listed in the following table:

9. DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

9.1 Design Appraisal

- For each type of valve, the vendor shall submit a fully detailed calculation note to
the Contractor in order to demonstrate that body and internal components stresses
are within acceptable levels.

- Calculations must be based on the applicable code(s) requirements or criteria. For


this purpose, all external loads, tension and bending moments shall be taken into
account, including the maximum torque developed by the actuator (if any) under the
design pressure.

- The vendor shall also submit detailed dimensional drawings (sketches are not
acceptable) and material take-off for each type of valve of the supply for contractor
approval. The submission for review of drawings and calculation notes to the
contractor does not relieve the vendor from any of his responsibilities and liabilities
regarding the design of these valves.

- Total valve weight shall be furnished for individual valves with quotation. This
information shall also be shown on the vendor prints drawings submitted for
purchaser’s approval after award of any purchase order.

- Valves shall be designed to operate freely after the stem has remained in one
position for an extended period of service, of up to one year from the date of
installation, or since the last periodic maintenance.

- The manufacturer shall ensure that the valves supplied are of good workmanship
with no defects and supplied in a new and unused condition

9.2 Pressure rating


Pressure-temperature rating shall be as per ASME B16.5 and flanges 26” and above
shall be in accordance with ASME B16.47 Series A as specified in data sheet for valves.

9.3 Thickness
Minimum thickness of the valve body shall be as a rule according to ASME B16.34 for
standard classes. Exceptions for the compact design check, gate and globe valves with
class 800 which the minimum valve body thickness shall be as per API 602. And for
bolted bonnet steel gate valves with class 150,300,600 the minimum valve body
thickness shall be as per API 600 for all material.

9.4 Bi-directional
Valves, with the exception of globe and check valves shall be suitable for bi-directional
service. In case vendor is offering valves which have a preferred pressure side or a
preferred direction of flow, vendor shall indicate this clearly as a deviation from the
specification in his quotation and an arrow showing the flow direction must be cast or
stamped on the body.

9.5 Ends
- Threaded, Socket-weld &Butt-weld ends: conformable to the ASME B1.20.1
/B16.11 /B16.25 standard.

- Flanged ends: conformable to the ASME B16.5 for diameters up to 24” / ASME
B16.47 (series A) for diameters of 26” and over. The flange faces shall be presided
on the data sheets according to the Piping Material Specification.

- The ends of butterfly valves shall comply with API 609.

9.6 Face to Face or End to End Dimension

9.6.1 Flanged and Butt-Welding Valves

Except as otherwise stated in the valve data sheets, the dimensions between the
flanges or the welding ends of valves shall comply with standard API 6D/ASME B
16.10/ASME B16.34.

The dimensions between the flanges or the welding ends of ball valves shall be in
accordance with “long pattern” dimensions. (If selected, the short pattern shall be
specified on the corresponding valve data sheet).

9.6.2 Threaded or socket welding valves


The end-to-end dimension of threaded or socket-welding valves shall be indicated
by vendor.

9.6.3 Valves installed between flanges(wafer type valves)


The end-to-end dimension of butterfly valves shall be in accordance with API 609.
The end-to-end dimensions of “wafer “type check valves shall be determined by
API 594.

9.7 Flange Facing Finish


- The flange facing type shall be in acc. with the material requisition and data sheet
for valves.
Stock finish:
The contact face finish shall comply with the MSS-SP-6 norm and shall have as
continuous spiral groove with a roughness value Ra 6.3 to 12.5 micrometers,
AARH 250 to 500 micro inch (see ASME B 46.1 standard)

Smooth finish:
The contact face shall be finished to a roughness value Ra 3.2 to 6.3 micrometers,
AARH 125 to 250 micro inches, to match spiral wound gaskets (see ASME B 46.1
standard)

- The inspection of the finish of these surfaces shall be performed by visual and touch
method with a standard roughness comparison specimen and not by means of
measuring instruments using stylus tracers and electronic amplification.

9.8 Operation of valve


- As a general rule, all valves shall be operated by a hand wheel or by a wrench.
For valves operated manually, the max force required under design and test
conditions, when applied at the rim of the hand wheel or lever, shall not exceed
300N during valve opening or closing.
- Gear operators shall be heavy-duty type and shall be weather and dust proof by total
enclosure suitable for a marine environment. Gearboxes shall be sealed, and
lubricated for life, and suitable for operating at a meteorological condition and Any
lubricants shall be suitable for meteorological condition and site data in the location
where they are to be installed. Operation shall be smooth at all time.
- Gear operators shall be provided with position indicator and shall be field
mountable. Handwheels shall be self-locking in any position and shall be provided
with a hexagonal nut to permit operation by a portable air motor.

- Gear operator handwheels shall be rotatable a minimum of 90 degrees. Gear


operators shall be installed by the valve manufacturer or manufacturer’s authorized
distributor. Normal condition of supply shall be with pinion shaft at right angles to
the pipe run. Any other position shall be oriented by rotating in the field.

- Gear operators for gate and globe valves shall be bevel types unless spur types are
specifically stated.

- Gear operated ball and butterfly valves shall be provided with worm gear operators.

- Gear operator requirements for valves shall be in acc. with the following
requirements, as shown in table below:

9.9 Bonnets and Stems


- For actuated valves, bonnets, stems, stem extensions, etc. shall be designed and
calculated to withstand the maximum torque delivered by the actuator at the
maximum allowable actuator power (i.e. pressure or otherwise). Operation shall be
smooth at all times.

- For hand-operated valves, bonnets, stems, stem extensions, etc. shall be designed to
withstand the maximum anticipated torque, which might be applied during the
operation of the valve.

- Unless ball valves, Valves shall be designed with full bore. Valve design shall
minimize pressure drop, avoid stagnant areas and erosion effects.

- All flanged valves shall have flanges integral with the valve body.

- Bonnets shall be bolted.

9.10 Bonnet Gasket and Bolting


- The gaskets of bolted bonnet or cover flange joints shall be suitable for the pressure
class of the valves and the maximum and/or minimum temperatures specified on the
valve project specification and requisitions, as well as for any additional
requirement such as "Fire-safe", etc.
- Body/bonnet joints valves shall be designed with adequate number of bonnet bolts
depending on valve class.

9.11 Locking Device

All valves (whether operated with a lever or a gear operator) shall be provided with
adequate pads and holes for enabling locking at both the open and closed positions
preventing any possible movement by involuntary external action, vibration, etc. Design
and efficiency of the locking device shall be independent of the installation position of
the valves.

9.12 Position Indicator

Ball, butterfly and plug valves shall be equipped with a position indicator, visible at all
time under normal operation, and to show the relative position of the opening and the
closure. The position indicator shall be graduated to indicate the percentage of opening.
The design shall be such that the position of the handle/indicator cannot be changed
during disassembly and reassembly of the valve.

9.13 Ball valves


- All ball valves shall be equipped with anti static device; self-relieving seat rings and
anti blow out stem as specified in valve data sheet. Valves shall incorporate suitable
devices in their design to ensure electrical continuity between the ball, stem and
body of the valve.

- The material of body, ball and trim of ball valves shall be as specified in valve data
sheet and requisition.

- All bodies of above ground valves shall be able to fully dismantle with a bolted
design. All welded or screwed body design is not acceptable.

- All ball valves shall be bi-directional.

- Ball valves shall comply the requirements in MSS-SP-72 or API 6D.

- The trunnion mounted type ball valves are preferred. As a minimum ball valves
shall be floating ball type/ trunnion mounted type as mentioned below:

Class 150: Floating ball, for diameter up to 6”-Trunnion mounted for diameter 8”
and above.

Class 300: Floating ball, for diameter up to 6”-Trunnion mounted for diameter 8”
and above.

Class 600, 900 and 1500: Floating ball, for diameter up to 1 1/2”-Trunnion mounted
for diameter 2” and above.

- Ball valves shall normally be reduced bore unless otherwise specified in the
material requisition or data sheet for valves. The bore size of reducing bore shall be
equal or larger than the regular port sizes indicated on MSS SP 72 table 1.

- Socket weld ball valves or plain both ends ball valves shall be provided with 100
mm long plain end nipples (for both sides). Threaded both ends shall be provided
with 100 mm threaded end nipples (for both sides). Plain one end / threaded one end
ball valves shall be provided with 100mm plain end nipple (for one side) and 100
mm threaded end nipple (for another side), complying with the relevant Piping
Material Classes requirements, unless otherwise specified.

- For soft-sealed ball valves, the valve design including the body and bonnet joints,
stem seals, and seats shall be certified "fire-tested" for flow in both directions in
accordance with API 607.

- Metal-seat ball valves: seats and ball contact faces must be Tungsten Carbide coated
in order to achieve abrasion resistance and surface hardness. Alternatively Chrome
carbide overlay may be considered in lieu of tungsten carbide, subject to purchaser
prior approval

9.14 Butterfly Valves

- Butterfly Valves shall comply with API 609.

- All gear-operated butterfly valves are to be fitted with a disc position indicator.

- On wrench-operated butterfly valves, the wrench must be capable of being


positively locked in the fully open and the fully closed positions.

9.15 Check Valves

- The body and trim material shall be as specified in valve data sheet and requisition.

- Wafer type check valve shall comply with API 594.

9.16 Gate and Globe Valves

- The body and trim material shall be as specified in valve data sheet and requisition.

- Gate and globe valves shall have backseating design.

- Gate valves shall have a rising stem with non-rising handwheel. Globe valves shall
have a rising stem with rising handwheel.

- Seats of globe valves NPS 2 and above shall be renewable. Welded seats are not
accepted.

- Globe valves shall be marked by permanent means with a flow arrow or bridge wall
marking to indicate the direction of flow, which results from pressure under the
valve seat or disc. The preferred method of marking is for arrows to be cast or
forged into the valve body. Use of stamping or another method shall not affect the
required pressure thickness. Stamping shall be with “low stress” steel stamps.

9.17 Extended Bonnet Valves

- Stems of extended bonnet valves for service temperature below -46°C, shall be
made of one piece only. Welded stems and stems of two or more pieces are not
acceptable.

- Extended bonnet valves are recommended where necessary to establish a


temperature differential between the valve stem packing and the fluid in the piping,
to avoid packing leakage and external icing or other heat flux problems. The valve
should be positioned to provide this temperature differential. Consideration should
be given to possible packing shrinkage in low temperature fluid service.

- The effect of external loads on valve operability and leak tightness should be
considered.

- The stuffing box or stem seal shall be placed at the top of the extension with a stem
guide bushing preferably at the lower end of this extension.

- To maintain the stem packing at a temperature high enough to permit actuation of


the valve, a vapor space shall be specified. A gas cap will form under the stuffing
box which protects the valve against malfunctioning due to freezing.

- The minimum bonnet extension length shall be able to provide the necessary vapour
space length.

- The diameter of the bonnet extension shall be limited to restrict the internal volume.

- The valve bonnet shall have an integral long neck or an extension shall be bolted or
welded to the body or bonnet.

- Valves in service below – 46 °C shall be capable of operation with the spindles


directed upwards (a spindle position of at least a 15° angle above the horizontal).

- The material of the extended valve bonnet shall be equivalent to the material for the
valve body.

- Vendor to furnish copies of test certificate for test conducted as per BS 6364.

9.18 Fabrication by welding and weld repairs

- In case the valves are fabricated by partial welding, including seal welds of bonnets,
this shall be clearly indicated in the quotation and, all weld procedures, including
repair procedures, shall be submitted for approval prior to any welding. Anyway, all
flanged valves shall have integral type flanges. Valves with flanges welded to the
body are not accepted.

- All welding shall be performed using weld procedures and welders/welding


operators qualified. The weld repair qualification procedures for castings shall
cover all weld repair work irrespective of the stage in production at which weld
repairing is carried out. Steel valve bodies and bonnets may be repaired by welding
in accordance with the provisions of their respective standards.

- Austenitic stainless steel and other valve castings alloys that have been subjected to
weld repairs shall be solution heat-treated.

- Where the material specification requires impact tests, a spare test coupon shall be
cast with each heat of castings whatever the valve pressure class. This shall be used
to establish impact values for weld metal and heat affected zone, for a weld repair
procedure.

- Filler materials for the welds shall be similar to and not substantially different from
the grade/ chemistry of the base materials welded. The valves manufacturer in
general shall exercise utmost care in the choice of the filler materials in order to
ensure the required mechanical properties.

- When examination, inspection, or testing reveals defects in the body of a steel or


alloy valve, the defects shall be repaired by the ASTM standard specified in the
purchase order.

- Major repairs are not permitted for any type of material without a prior written
authorization.

- In sour services all welding, including welds on seat rings, shall meet the
requirements of NACE MR0175.

10. INSPECTION,EXAMINATION AND TESTING

10.1General requirements

- Examinations and/or tests may be reviewed and/or witnessed by the INSPECTOR


at the suppliers and/or manufacturer's facility

- Prior to shipment, all items shall be inspected by the supplier to assure that each
item is properly marked. No items will be accepted by OWNER without correct
marking.

- All testing and examination shall be in full accordance with the applicable ASTM
Standards.

- Inspection and acceptance of the valve by the purchaser does not relieve the
manufacturer/supplier of the responsibility to comply with the requirements of this
Specification, applicable ASTM Standards and the Purchase Order.

- If the valve fails to meet any of the test requirements the valve shall be rejected, all
obtained data and findings shall be recorded.

- If the test equipment fails, the test shall be aborted and the valve shall be submitted
to a re-test.

- Products that are to specifications shall be guaranteed by an adequate inspection


certificate, conformity certificate, material certificate, test certificate, etc.

- All pressure containing welds shall be considered as a part of the valve assembly
and shall be subject to all applicable design, fabrication, material, examination,
testing, and inspection requirements.

- Visual Inspection
Visual inspection shall be performed according to API 598 and MSS-SP-55.
Non-destructive devices shall be used to check the performance of valve
components (trim hardness, machining, etc.).

- Dimensional Inspection
Main dimensions of the valves shall be verified for compliance with the relevant
codes, standards and/or specifications (i.e. flanges, bore diameter, face-to-face
dimensions, etc.).

10.2 Pressure Tests

- All completed valve assemblies shall meet the pressure test, test leakage, and
examination requirements of API 6D completed by the API 598 .

- All pressure tests and leak tests shall be conducted only after completion of the
required welding and heat treatments.

- No leakage is acceptable on soft-seal valves. Prior to pressure testing, all internal


valve components shall be cleaned. External surfaces shall be unpainted and free of
scale, weld spatter and other foreign matter. Valves shall be operated (open/close)
some times before, to pass the required closure tests.

- The type and/or style of stem packing used during the pressure test shall be the
same as that final packing supplied with the valve.

- Pressure testing of Austenitic Stainless Steel valves shall conform to the following
additional requirements:
Only water containing fewer than 50 ppm (50 mg/kg) chloride ion shall be used
for pressure testing.
Following pressure testing, the test water shall be immediately drained and
valves shall be dried by blowing with air or dry nitrogen.

- Testing shall be done with the final gear operator installed.

- Closure torque for manual and gear operated valves during pressure testing shall not
exceed values than achievable by hand-tightening.

- After the pressure testing has been carried out, the results shall be entered on the
Certificate of each valve.

- Where there is a choice in the Standard Specification between hydrostatic test or


other Non Destructive Examination, the hydrostatic test shall be performed.

10.3 NDE Testing of Pressure retaining Parts

Valves shall be Non Destructive Examined in accordance with the requirements as per
following table:

10.4 Functional Test

10.5 Material verification

Positive Material Identification (PMI)


All Low Alloy and Austenitic Stainless Steel material shall have the Chemistry verified
by supplier in accordance with the requirements of “NGL-CT-1-0000-PI-SP-2024”.
The result shall be stated in the certificate.
After the testing has been carried out, the items that have been tested will be stamped or
etched with "PMI". Results of such checks shall be entered on the Material Certificate.

10.6 Fire Testing

When specified, valves shall additionally be fire tested per API 607. Testing shall be
done with the final gear operator installed.

10.7 Harness Testing


D3
When sour service (NACE) conditions are specified, hardness requirements as described
in NACE standard MR 01-75 shall be met for any process-wetted part of the valve and
pressure retaining bolting.

In services other than sour services, maximum allowable hardness shall be:
• Base metal, weld and haz (heat affected zone) of pressure containing parts:248HV

• Base metal of internals with “hard facing “ weld deposits :350HV

• 13%Cr steel internals :350HV

10.8 Impact Testing

10.8.1 Low temperature carbon steel

All low temperature carbon steel valves with design temperature below -29ºc, a
charpy test to -46ºc is required according to appropriate code.

When these tests are required, they shall be carried out in conformity with the
requirements of ASTM standard A 370 and at the temperature required for the
grade of material.

10.8.2 Stainless Steel

For service temperature below -46 ºc noted into valves project specification, and for
austenitic stainless steel valves shall be impact tested in accordance with ASME
B31.3 (if required) with the following requirements:

1. Each base metal shall be impact tested accordance with the methods in ASTM
A370. The notched bar impact properties of the material shall be determined by
testing a set of three (3) Charpy V-Notch specimens for each heat at -196 °C. Each
of the three (3) specimens tested in each set shall have a lateral expansion opposite
the notch not less than 0.38 mm.
2. Weld metal deposits for production welds (e.g., welding of extended bonnets), or
repair welds shall be impact tested in accordance with Paragraph 323.2.2 and Table
323.2.2 of ASME B31.3 at -196 °C. Impact tests that meet the requirements of
Table 323.3.1, which are performed as part of the weld procedure qualification, will
satisfy all requirements of Paragraph 323.2.2, and need not be repeated for
production welds.
To ensure impact properties of austenitic stainless steel weld consumables used for
valves for service temperature below -46 ºC, each heat, lot or batch of filler metal
and filler metal/flux combination to be used in manufacture shall be impact tested at
-196 °C. Impact testing shall use the methods in ASTM A370 and the acceptance
criteria of ASME B31.3.

10.9 Cryogenic Testing

- Valves used for service temperature below -46 ºC shall be cryogenically tested.
- For each valve manufacturer, a minimum of 10% (for NPS 3 and larger) and 5%
(for NPS 2 and smaller) of the lot, selected at random of each valve type (butterfly,
gate, and etc.), pattern, size, pressure class, shall be subject to cryogenic testing.
Valves selected for test shall additionally include a minimum of one valve per type,
pattern, size, and pressure class.
- Test procedure and requirements shall be as per BS 6364.

11 CERTIFICATES

- All the material concerned by this specification must be traceable from the origin
mill/foundry or manufacturer.

- All the materials supplied shall be supported by a mill test material certificate
according to the EN 10204-3.1.

- The material certificate shall mention the chemical composition and the mechanical
characteristics as well as the results of the mechanical tests and of the non-
destructive examinations carried out along with the control/inspection of the
materials.

- The inspection and the certification of all materials shall conform to the
requirements of the API 6D /API 598, ASME B16.34/MSS-SP-55 standards.

- The mill test reports shall be provided for impact-tested materials, in addition to the
documentation required by the standard of the material. These reports shall include
the results of the impact tests.

- Contractor may require documents in addition to those required by this


specification, the material standard or the applicable codes, as a basis of acceptance
for material which is of foreign origin, insufficient marking or of uncertain quality.
The type of documents shall be as determined by Contractor to support and assure
the quality of the material.

- The supplier shall furnish Manufacturer’s mill test reports, including contractor’s
purchase order number and item code number.

12 PACKING, MARKING AND PROTECTION

- Sea packing shall be used for all valves; in the case of austenitic stainless steel, the
packing must also be waterproof. It must meet the conditions of all stages of
transport (rail, road, air and sea).

- Each valve shall be marked according to the API 6D, and MSS.SP.25 standard.

- In additional to the requirements of MSS SP-25 & API 6D the following additional
marking shall be applied, preferably in the same manner as the basic marking.
Otherwise, it shall be marked on a stainless steel plate permanently attached to the
valve body.

- After assembly, the valves shall not be cleaned with a chlorinated solvent nor sand
blasted.

- Padded slings, cables, chains, or bands shall be used to prevent damage to valves
during handling and transportation.

- Gate, globe and butterfly valves shall be in the closed position for shipment. Ball
and plug valves shall be in open position for shipment.

- Stems shall be protected against damages during storage or while in transit with
plastic sleeves.

- Crating and packages shall be suitable for opening and resealing without difficulty
or damage

- The butt-weld ends of valves shall be closed and protected by plastic caps or covers,
or a peel-off varnish.

- The flanges contact faces shall be caped and properly protected against mechanical
impacts on their whole surface.

- The threads of threaded valves shall be oiled or protected by a non-peel varnish and
by plastic caps.

- When paint is required for protection of the valve, it shall be applied comply with
the requirements of “NGL-CT-1-0000-PI-SP-2016 “only after all tests and
examinations have been carried out

- Painting works shall conform to considering site conditions and final coat RAL No.
as specified by contractor.
The interior surfaces, the threaded parts, the beveled or socket-welding ends, the
flange contact faces and the various valve-identifying markings shall not be painted.

- All Stainless steel valves shall be protected against the risks of saline corrosion
during shipment, transport, cleaning, fabrication, testing and/or storage. If these
