Chapter 1

Introduction

1.1 Background of the study

Surveillance systems are a must in every establishments, streets, and

houses nowadays. It is very widespread where in fact here in the
Philippines, especially here in Zamboanga city most of the establishments,
streets, houses in which people go to work, stay, visit, and live has already
an installed surveillance system in them.

The importance of surveying establishments, and other places is very

broad but some of these are the following: to assure that the essential
facilities are being watched, to help on gathering evidences, to safeguard a
place, and many more. One of the most common or known surveillance
system is the CCTV or the Closed-Circuit Television, the function of this
system is to survey, record, and store a motion picture.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Nowadays some of the existing surveillance systems that can be

found in establishments, and other places can be seen through and through,
as if they are not actually hidden in some way. Also, these surveillance
systems require a big amount of digital storage to be able to record a motion
picture and store it, and it also requires an operator which is trained in
handling this kind of system to able for the system to do what it is intended
to do.

1.3 Objectives of the Study
1.3.1 General Objective

The objective of this study is to reduce the clutter of requiring too much
digital storage, and to put away the need for a surveillance system operator by
the use of the modern technologies that is required in conducting and executing
this project.

1.3.2 Specific Objectives

 To automate the capture triggering by motion detection.

 To reduce the problem of requiring too much digital storage space for a
surveillance system.
 To capture a much more specified and detailed picture of an object or a
person.
 To take away the need of a surveillance operator for a motion triggered
system.

1.4 Scope and Limitations

1.4.1 Scope

 If implemented, every movement that is sensed by the system’s sensor

will be captured, and stored.

1.4.2 Limitations
 The sensing range of the proposed system is limited to the limit range
of the electronic sensor used.

1.5 Significance of the Study
The completion of this proposed project will give benefit, and
security to an establishment, a specific place, or a person by:
Automating the capturing of every motion sensed by the system which
will reduce the need of a surveillance operator. The proposed project
also ensures that the space that is required for storing is much lesser
than a typical surveillance system.
