Abstract
Acid base equilibrium is one of the branches of chemistry that deals with the pH
level of one solutions. Experiment is done in laboratory and supervised by the
laboratory instructor. This lab report includes the tools and laboratory apparatus utilized
and the step by step detailed procedure to successfully achieved the result of the
experiment. Also safety procedure is applied for safety purposes before and after the
experiment. House hold samples are used to become aware on the pH level of the
solutions that people usually used at home.

I. Introduction
Chemical equilibrium in solution are both present in Acids and Bases. And to add, one
way to help predict the products of a reaction and products' relative concentration and to
identify which is the weaker acid and base is to determine the acid base equilibrium.
The more common in nature are weak acids and bases.

The products and reactants have achieved a state of balance when at chemical
equilibrium. Reactions within the sample could possibly still happen, however, the
concentration of products and reactants do not change with time as a result of forward
and reverse reactions that take place at the same rate. Acid base equilibrium concept-
related consist of pH curve plotting and buffers designing. And in additional, products of
relation and products' relative concentration can be predicted and identifying the weaker
and acid and base through the process of acid base equilibrium. It is weak acids and
bases that are more coon in nature. Example given is order hymenoptera's insects,
which are bees, wasps and ants, have a weak acid or what we called formic acid to
guard themselves when biting or sting. This could result to other several animals
prevent their presence with the insects. It should produce enough hydrogen ions to
attack the enemy of a bees, although not enough to dissolve the stinger and organs of a
beast for the weaponized acid to be efficient

A pH indicator is used to visually and clearly determined the pH of a substance if it is

acid or base. The acid and base can be identified based on the changing of colors of
the indicator depending on the pH of the substance that it is testing. Water is normally 7
in a pH scale it is the neutral. A solution lower than 7 can be consider as acidic and a
solution higher than 7 will be consider as basic.

II. Goals and Objectives

1. To become creative and use the things in experiment that can easily found at
home.
2. To become aware to the pH level of solutions and substances that we usually
use in our daily lives.
3. To perturb chemical reactions at equilibrium and observe how they respond

III. Materials

LAB APPARATUS INGREDIENTS

Blender Baking Soda
Coffee Filter Vinegar
Test Tube Distilled Water
Test Tube Rack Eggplant
Test Tube Holder Lemon Juice
Test Tube Brush Ammonia
Beakers Calamansi Juice
Glass Funnel Tap Water
Graduated cylinder Soda
Medicine Dropper Sugar with Water
Corn Starch
Coconut water

IV. Safety Procedures

1. Eye Protection, Googles or Safety Glasses must be worn when working on
experiments.

2. Students must be made to wear lab coat and close shoes when working on
experiments.

3. Protect your hands, especially When handling chemicals, students must be worn
disposal gloves when working on experiments. Remove the gloves before exiting the
laboratory.

4. Strictly do not taste the food that is part of the expirement. Stricly no eating and
drinking anything inside the science laboratory or while working on experiments.

5. Always follow the instruction given. Report all the incidents that happens during the
experiments.
6. Before leaving the science laboratory make sure to dispose all the material used on
the experiment and is properly washed. Washed your hands and sanitize before leaving
the laboratory

V. Methodology

1. Chop the eggplant peel into small pieces until you have about 2 cups of chopped
eggplant peel. Place the eggplant pill in a large beaker or other glass container and add
boiling water to cover the eggplant peel. Allow at least ten minutes for the color to leach
out of the eggplant peel. Alternatively, you can place about 2 cups of eggplant peel in a
blender, pour distilled water, and blend it.

2. Put a coffee filter on the glass funnel and filter out the plant material to obtain a red-
purple-bluish colored liquid and to avoid small pieces of red cabbage getting into the
solutions. Then placed the funnel into another clean beaker and pour the solution. This
liquid is at about pH 7. The exact color you get depends on the pH of the water.

3. Pour about 15 mL of your eggplant peel indicator into each test tube.

4. Use medicine dropper to add 10 ml of ammonia into the test tube with eggplant peel
indicator and see changes.

5. Follow the same procedure to various household solutions to your indicator until a
color change is obtained. Use separate containers for each household solution.

6. Observe the changing of color to identified the pH level of each solutions with the
help of pH scale. Fill the blanks and put your observations to determine which solutions
are acidic or basic.
