Wedge-Type Ultrasonic End Area Inspection System (UTEA)
Although every effort has been made to design and construct safe and dependable equipment. It is impossi-
ble to foresee all circumstances under which the equipment may be utilized or to anticipate all possible combi-
nations of factors which may trigger an accident. It is therefore imperative that the equipment operator, as well
as all others engaged in any phase of set-up or maintenance of the unit, consider Safety-First an important
part of the job.
The following general safety considerations are offered as an aid to users of this inspection equip-
ment to assist them in becoming safety oriented:
READ all operations / maintenance manuals before attempting to lift, move, operate, or perform
maintenance on any piece of equipment! Become intimately familiar with all equipment controls, their loca-
tions, their operation, and their effect on equipment functions. Keep the Operation and Parts Manual in a
clean location immediately adjacent to the equipment for quick reference. Educate all employees to the cor-
rect operation and possible safety hazards associated with this type of equipment. Have all employees read
all associated manuals.
Safety Notifications
All Safety information provided in this Operation and Parts Manual include visual icons, bold lettered words
and description of danger and how to proceed.
READ ALL OPERATION / MAINTANANCE MANUALS before attempting to lift move, operate or perform
maintenance on any piece of equipment! Become familiar with all equipment controls, their locations, their
operation, and their effect on equipment functions. Keep the Operation Manual in a clean location immediately
adjacent to the equipment for quick reference. Educate all employees on the correct operation and possible
safety hazards associated with this type of equipment. Have all employees read the manual.
PRACTICE GOOD HOUSEKEEPING: Maintain the area adjacent to the equipment for tool and or accessory
storage, do not store tools or accessories on canister. Remove all oil spills and potential trip points from the
operating areas around the equipment to prevent slipping or falling into the working zone.
WHEN CHANGING SET-UP or performing maintenance work, cleaning equipment, etc., main power supply
or supplies must be shut off to avoid accidental operation and possible resultant injury. This is particularly
important in the event more than one person is involved in such duties.
ONLY QUALIFIED / AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL should attempt to diagnose and repair equipment control
and power system. Serious or fatal injuries can result from tampering with electrical system without adequate
instructions!

TechSonic-W™ Calibration
1. Place proper size standard for wedge being used on set-up stand, place wedge on standard,
and turn water supply “on”.
The standerds have both notches on the same plane. Typical notch dimensions are .5” long x .040” wide x 5% deep, and each
notch is located approximately 6” from either end of the test piece.
2. Change the “Signal Start” on the software to 0.600” (this setting may vary).
3. Peak the signal of either notch by maneuvering the wedge with the notch at 0 degrees.
4. Adjust the Gain knob as necessary to peak the signal.
5. Adjust the Ohm knob to determine if any noise can be removed from the signal.
6. Adjust the Pulse Tune knob to peak the signal to noise ratio of the signal.
7. Again, adjust the Gain knob until the desired screen percentage is achieved.
Example: I.D. (90%) and O.D. (60%)
8. Use the Channel Select knob to switch to the next channel.
9. Repeat steps 1-8 for each channel.
