Standards Institution on I August 1978, afrer the drift {\nalize,J by the
Wrought Steel Products Sectional Cornmittee had been approved by the
Structural and Metals Division Council.
0.2 This standard was first issuedin l95l and revised in lg62 and 1972.
As a result of experiencegained duringthese years, it has been decided to
revise this standard aligning the requirements of tensile propertics rvith
the practices bcing followed in the industry in this freld.
0.2.1 In this revision, the tensile strength has been specified in terms oI
MPa (N/mmr), in alignment with the adoption of SI units, both
nationally and internationally.
O3 For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requiremcnt of this
standard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated,
expressing the result of a test or analysis, shali be rounded off in
accordancewith IS:2-1960t. The number of significant places retaincd
in the rounded offvalue should be the same as that of the inecificd value
in this standard.

l. scoPE
l.l This standard covers the requircments for mild srcel wire of

A'3.1 Tests for Physicel Reqnircncnts - From the coils selectedfrom
col I and 2 of Table 3, adequate length of test piece shall be cut from
each_end and subjected to physical tests, namely, size, surface condition,
tensile, bend, wrapping and coating tests. A tist piece failing to meet
.rny one of the requirements, shall be called a defeciive. If the number
of defectives found is less than or equal to the permissible number of
defectives specified in col 3 of TablC 3, the lot ihall be considered to
have conformed to phvsical requirements.
A-3.2 Tcstc for Chcnicel RequireEcnts - Unless otherwise agreed,
thc following proccdure shall be followed for chemical requirements:
From those test pieces which have conformed to -accord- physical
requirements, further test pieces shall be selected at random
ing to col 4 of Table 3. These samples shall be tested for all the
chemical rcquirements- If a test pieie fails to meet the respective
chemical reguirement, it shall be called a defective. The lot shall be
consideredto have conformed to the chemical reguirements if all the
individual test piecestestcd for chemical requirements passthe test.
