First Week: The True Church Part 1

Text: Philippians 2:1-4
Therefore if there is any [a]consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the
Spirit, if any affection and mercy, 2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same
love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or
conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 Let each of you
look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

INTRODUCTION:
Jesus did not die so that we could merely tolerate one another, he died so that we would cherish
one another.

Do you value unity among believers?

1. Paul loves to lavish us with encouraging hope giving reality before and as the basis of any
commands.

Do we deal ourselves this way?

2. Paul models for us how we show the worth of the Gospel namely JOY in Gospel unity.

This is the worth of the Gospel

One Spirit
One Mind
Striving together we show and walked worthy of the Gospel.

Ano ba ang joy ko?

Do I posses the joy of PAUL?

Do we still remember the prayer of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane?

John 17:21-22
21
that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in
Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 And the glory which You gave Me I have
given them, that they may be one just as We are one:

The prayer was for unity among believers. Hindi ito patungkol sa external church union.
Ito ay patungkol sa moral likeness.
By exhibiting the character of God and of Christ.

Unity in fellowship
Verse 21
Witness-bearing

Future verse 22
Hindi pa tayo glorified body, ito ay matatanggap lang natin pag dumating na muli si
Cristo.

Kung ang isang simbahan ay nagsasabi na they know God have one faith in Christ Jesus
can’t be one? they don’t live what they say.

Title: The True Church

How can we tell the world that we are the TRUE CHURCH?

THEY LOVE JESUS

We didn’t love Him first, He loved us first

1 John 4:19
19
We love [a]Him because He first loved us.

Meron palang ni rerequire sa akin.

Note:
a. There is encouragement and Comfort from love

May nag sabi, “Pride is the only disease known to man that makes everyone sick except the one
who has it.”

“I believe firmly that the moment our hearts are emptied of pride and selfishness and ambition
and everything that is contrary to God’s law, the Holy Spirit will fill every corner of our hearts.
But if we are full of pride and conceit and ambition and the world, there is no room for the
Spirit of God. We must be emptied before we can be filled.” Do we deal ourselves this way?-
D.L. Moody

b. Participation in the Spirit

Our love to God is measured by our everyday fellowship with others and the love it displays.” –
Andrew Murray
c. Affection and Sympathy in CHRIST

Affection is the level of compassion.

The Holy Spirit brings us all together in such wonderful fellowship and since there is so much
tender affection and mercy in Christianity, we should all be able to get along in joyful harmony
with one another.

Apostle Paul is appealing to us for unity based on common devotion to Christ and common
possession of the Holy Spirit.

They LOVE EACH OTHER

Do we also deal ourselves with this?
Paul begs the believers in Philippi. To fulfill his joy. Mga believers indeed given Paul much
joy.

HOW?
-Being like-minded
-Having the same love
-Being of one accord and
-Of one mind

a. Being like-minded
really means to have the mind of Christ.
To see things He would see them, and to respond as He would respond.

b. Having the Same Love

Means to show the same love to others that the Lord has shown to us, a love that did not count
the cost.

c. Being of One Accord

Means to work together in harmony toward a common goal.

d. Finally, Being of One Mind

Means to act unitedly as to show that Christ’s mind is directing us.

Conclusion:
We must have the mind of Christ and a mind like Christ creates unity from a diverse believers.
