The Forest Conditions in Indonesia

Forests are the source of life for living things on earth. No wonder, if the forest
is called the lungs of the world. Forest is a good ecosystem for plants and animals. The
condition of the forest in modern era is certainly interesting to note further, especially
being interesting as a photographic object for photography activists. Like the
photographer named Christopel Paino who photographed the beauty of the Dayak tribal
forest. On the other hand, there is a photographer named Zamzami who actually
photographed the condition of peat forests in Riau which were destroyed by fire.
Although different, the two photographers show the true condition of Indonesian forests
in this modern era which should be worthy of our attention.

At Christopel Paino photograph, there is a beautiful forest full of trees

surrounding the river. There looks a lot of tall trees. The leaves are lush and green. The
color of the leaves on the tree is dark green and light green. The color of fresh green
leaves makes our eyes not bored when they see it. The biggest tree in the photo has
small size leaves but grows very much. In the middle of the forest there is a river that
has clear water and looks fresh. The river still looks greenish and not polluted by
garbage. Dense trees make the forest area look shady and not hot. The photographer
also showed that there were two small boats on the river. This can indicate that the
forest and river are still touched by human life. The river looks shallow because in the
photograph we can see someone standing in the middle of the river. There is sunlight
that penetrates between the trees, so the photograph look bright. Photographer want to
show that in Indonesia, especially the Dayak tribal forest is still well preserved, as
evidenced by the many trees that grow there.

The forest on the Zamzami photograph looks alarming. Many trees are charred
and blackish due to forest fires. The trees no longer grow tall. All that remains is the
trunk underneath the tree. There are only a few tree trunks that are still visible standing.
The others are only remaining debris that looks emaciated. The trees are covered in
thick black smoke, which if there is a human being there will definitely becomes
difficult to breathe. The cloud of smoke soared upward which would certainly cause air
pollution. The land also looks barren and dry. It is irony to see Indonesian peat forest
being damaged due to forest fires. Even though if seen more closely, in the photo there
is a group of trees that have not been burned, and the trees appear to grow tall . It's a
pity that the trees become burned and only become debris and no longer grow lush.
Forest fires cause damage to plant ecosystems and will certainly damage the habitat of
animals that live in the forest. The photographer wants to show the condition of
Indonesian peat forest which was damaged by fire.

Both photographs have similarities, namely showing the state of the forest in
Indonesia. What distinguishes it is the Christopel Paino photograph showing a beautiful
forest with many towering trees and shady green leaves. And accompanied by bright
lighting on the photograph. This gives a beautiful impression when looking at the
beauty of Indonesian forest. Whereas the Zamzami photograph displays a damaged
forest. With lots of trees charred and dead. Accompanied by a thick puff of smoke
enveloping it. So it looks gray and the lighting is lacking because it is blocked by thick
smoke. This raises sympathy for those who see it. Both photographs create a different
impression when people see it, although both photos are the same as showing about the
forest.

The different state of Indonesian forests in this modern period is displayed on

both photographs. One forest that is still beautiful with many tall and green trees. The
other one shows the forest that was damaged by fire. Both photographs are focused on
the condition of the trees because they clearly look different. Both photographs show
the beauty of nature versus the destruction of nature. Both photos succeeded in making
us interested and become more concerned about the condition of forests in Indonesia.
