Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

The saying of Jesus in today’s gospel is meant for family life: “all who humble
themselves will be exalted.” Let us remember to humbly ask for what we need and
then be generous in return. It is in giving that we discover the depth of our love for
one another.
Pastor’s Pick of the Week: “Ninth Day”

With The Ninth Day, acclaimed film director Volker Schlondorff creates a moral
thriller that “succeeds in illuminating an almost unimaginable dark story” (The New
York Times). Inspired by the true story of a dissident priest’s temporary furlough from
Dachau, The Ninth Day transforms an ethical crisis into a nail biting showdown and
unspeakable horror into transcendent redemption. From inside the hell of the Dachau
concentration camp “Priest Block,” Father Henri Kremer clings to a fragile life and
challenged faith. But Gestapo officer Gebhardt, a young and ruthless lapsed
seminarian, arranges a nine day reprieve for the priest. If Kremer can persuade his
staunchly anti-Nazi Bishop to capitulate to Nazi occupation, he’ll go free. But if he
fails or tries to escape, death awaits. Torn between duty, faith, fear for his own life
and for the lives of his loves ones, in just nine days Kremer must find a way to ease
his conscience, protect his family, hold on to his faith and uphold his vows.

Ulrich Mattes is eerily convincing as a man torn by moral choices” (Time Out
New York). Together pilgrim Kremer and tempter Gebhardt” are singularly fascinating
as tension-filled incompatibles” (NY Observer). Matthes, Diehl and Bibiana Beglau, as
Kremer’s sister, contribute powerfully eloquent performances. The Ninth Day
showcases the sensitive visionary precision that has kept Volker Schlondorff on the
leading edge of international cinema for four decades.

Christ’s Peace!

Catholics across the country will be celebrating Priesthood Sunday this weekend October
27. It is a day set aside to celebrate the importance of the gift of priesthood in the life of the
Church. It is a time for us to reflect on the ministry that our priests share with us when we
gather at the Table of the Lord – when we call in our time of need. Consider sharing a
personal note or card of thanks. Together we pray that many of our young people will be
inspired by the ministry and witness of our priests. May their hearts be open to hearing
and responding to God’s call in their lives? For more information on the priesthood, visit
www.clepriesthood.com

WHY do we witness and pray outside Planned Parenthood and abortion clinics? "Rescue those being led
away to death; hold back those staggering toward the slaughter." Proverbs 24:11 DOES IT DO ANY
GOOD? Norma McCorvey, "Roe" of "Roe v Wade" was eventually converted through the prayerful
perseverance of PRO-LIFE WITNESSESS, as was former Planned Parenthood director ABBY
JOHNSON, resulting in rescuing hundreds of hundreds of babies, their mothers and fathers as well as
abortion providers from the slaughter of abortion. This week is First Friday, the Culture of Life
sponsors a Holy Hour for Life, before the Blessed Sacrament at 11:00 am, we are also in need of 12
Apostles for Life to witness one month a year, at 1:15pm in front of Planned Parenthood. We pray "The
Way of the Cross for Victims of Abortion" including their mothers, and abortion providers. "Everyone
who acknowledges me before others, I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father." (Matthew
10:32). For more information contact Lynn Willig @ (330)472-9452
