Today, we are going to talk about “The Role of Accountants in The Globalization Era”.

First,let me inform you about accountant.

What is accountant?

Accountants are one profession that is actively involved in the global economy and the borderless
economy.

In a corporation, accountants are asked to provide financial reports that are in accordance with
accounting principles and in line with the principles of corporate governance.

The accounting profession is experiencing very rapid development along with the demands of the
community in the business sector and the government is getting higher.

After that, Accountants must prepare themselves for professional certification.

Through this professional certification, Indonesian accountants are encouraged to be creative,

innovative, skilled, and have high competitiveness. Knowledge and skills needed by professional
accountants will continue to grow rapidly.

The role of professional organizations is very important in facing this challenge. Indonesian
accountants must be ready and able to be reliable and capable of competing at the international
level.

Moreover, Indonesia has a huge market potential for accounting services.

After that, we will move to tell about the condition of the power of accountants in Indonesia

Accounting as a tool that greatly influences economic calculations, both techniques and penetration
beyond the borders of a country moving along the pathway, which was built by trade operations and
political patterns of accounting once was a pure phenomenon.

The statement above means that accounting information with all its devices has an influence on
certain countries without causing any economic or political conflicts.

Indonesian accountants in providing accounting services are divided into four professions, namely:

1. Public accountant

2. Management Accountants

3. Government Accountants

4. and Educator Accountants.

To meet the upcoming era of globalization, it is necessary to improve the academic ability and
Indonesian accounting profession.

Higher education in the field of accounting, must be oriented towards the development of
multinational companies. Domestic public accountants must be able to work more professionally
and independently, if not the financial statements of multinational companies in Indonesia will be
controlled by foreign public accountants who can open their representatives in Indonesia without
having to correspond with domestic public accountants.

Finally, According to the Indonesian Institute of Accountants (IAI) the position and composition of
ownership of IAI are:

1. 740 (SEVEN HUNDRED AND FOURTY) Active Public Accountants

2. 433 (FOUR HUNDRED AND TIRTY THREE) Registered Public Accountants

3. 889 (EIGHT HUNDRED AND EIGHTY NINE) Management Accountants

4. 268 (TWO HUNDRED AND SIXTY EIGHT) Educator Accountants,

5. and 1984 (ONE THOUSAND NINE HUDRED AND EIGHTY FOUR) Government Accountants.

With the development of service, trade and industry companies, also the need for funds for the
development of companies, capital markets are needed.

The need for Public Accountants to provide services also increased from 740 active public
accountants and 433 accountable public accountants, most of which were needed in Jakarta, and
the rest were used by 23 cities.

This extreme difference in challenges will hamper the development of companies in cities outside
Jakarta.
Summary

To summarize the points, my point is in the Role of Accountants in the Era of Globalization, imagine
that the development of trade is greatly increasing as a result of the emergence of an information
and transportation revolution on the one hand and inadequate Indonesian accounting services on
the other. The obstacle is that accountants in Indonesia are still relatively weak in the field of
mastering information technology and mastering foreign languages. Based on the requirements to
increase the role of accountants in the future, the professionalism of accountants needs to be
improved through the Certification of Accountants exam, the implementation of continuing
professional education, and changing and improving the accounting education curriculum.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Professional services, especially the accounting profession with the enactment of
GATS, will receive impacts as well as challenges that must be faced and opportunities that can be
utilized. The challenge that must be faced by the accounting profession is the possibility of a
reduction in the accounting services market, the possibility of inequality in the level of
professionalism, the possibility of crossing opinion on accounting services transactions so that the
profession needs to understand the rules and provisions regarding international trade (international
business & legal environment).

It is also necessary for professionals including accountants to improve technical capabilities in the
international economy by following continuous professional education. To improve the quality of the
accounting profession, it is necessary for the government, private sector and professional
organizations to work together to improve the system and process of accounting education, so that
professional graduates are ready to meet international competition.

This means that the government must involve IAI, accounting education institutions, the business
world and the public in the process of reforming accounting education.
