“An image is simply an external memoir of one's life.”

― Scott Lorenzo

For a photographer, the quest for the perfect shot does not simply stop once a subject has been found or a
feeling has been captured. As an insatiable scrutinizer, he keeps on searching beyond well-known forms and
quality of light.

Adrian Burns, born in Mexico, graduated from The Putney School in the United States and Parsons in Paris,
has undertaken throughout his life an initiatory journey cadenced by the rhythm of his camera. He has
probed the human soul with the publication of several books including "Apuestas y Certidumbres" which
traced portraits of some of the most influential people in Mexico. He has focused his career in advertising
and fashion in New York and then devoted himself entirely to film to pay tribute to the 7th art. After directing
a few movies, he has taken back his camera to produce a dazzling and sincere photo-reportage in the most
dangerous favelas and barrios in Rio and Medellín.

Adrian Burns' work can be seen in The Museum of Photography of Riga, The Vermont International
Museum of Contemporary Art + Design, The Museum of Contemporary Art in Yucatan, and The Jumex
Museum in Mexico City. These exhibitions have retraced a narrative about people and society that has led
him to gradually shift his scope, slowly undertaking a more reflexive and introspective approach. His new
monochromatic series challenges our perception and the usual way of seeing things. Each image possesses
geometric forms as dynamic counterpoints and unconscious overlays. From his archive, Adrian allows the
viewer to explore a new understanding of shapes, modifying the patterns with subtle but precise graphite
and acrylic interventions.

The final work encompasses three distinct but well-balanced spaces which awaken the viewer's senses. The
raw photograph is serving as a base to create an imaginary and mythical space, delimited and revealed by
precise and handmade lines. Finally, a much subtler dimension appears through geometric shapes that
come out of the image when triggered by the viewer’s movement. Beyond a simple visual game, the artist is
questioning our perception of reality using abstract and unexpected components. Dual and contrasting,
these geometric elements draw the viewer into a new dimensional consciousness.

RGB Contemporary is pleased to present "Contrepoints", the first Adrian Burn’s show in Paris co-curated by
Santiago Rumney-Guggenheim and Theodore Bajard .

Exhibition date: October 17 - November 7 2019 at 47 rue des Tournelles, Paris 3.
