0 DISCUSSION

This experiment was conducted to determine the efficiency of the pulse jet bag
filter in removing matter in air and to study the effect of varying total filtering area to
the separation efficiency. The bag house filter also known as fabric filter because of
the filtered was used fabric as the filtration process of the dust. Therefore, this
experiment was used 200 g of kaolin and it was used in a different of the number bag
filter. The baghouse filter was one of the most effective machines for removing the
particulate matter. Basically, the baghouse filter consists of the filter media (bags),
suspended inside a casing or housing. It was designed in a cylinder-shaped bag and
suspended. Inside the large fabric filter, it was divided into a several compartments.
Each of the compartments have a several filter bags where the filter cloth sewn into
cylinder shapes was installed. The dust was collected at the bottom of the machine
know as a hopper. The principle of the collection by the fabric filter was when the dust
deposited on the surface of the filter bag and the interior of the filter cloth where filter
and collects the dust contained into the process gas. Typically, the velocity of the
filtration passing though filter cloth was about 0.3 to 2 m per minute while the pressure
loss about 1-2 kPa. This process was continuing until it become thicker, the pressure
loss of the filter cloth increase, so the collected dust was intermittently removed. The
removing of dust layer was done by several methods, such as mechanical shaking,
reverse pressure and pulse jet. However, this experiment was used the pulse jet and
the efficiency of dust collection was about 99% or higher. Besides, the concentration
at the outlet was less than 10 mg/m3N. Therefore, the number of bag filter play as main
role where it can collect more dust within the time.

Based on the Table 1.0, the efficiency of the 4 bags was higher than the
efficiency of 2 bags where 36% for 4 bags and 16% for the second bags. It was proved
that increased the bags filter was increasing the efficiency of collecting dust. Therefore,
the weight of 4 bags filter was 128 g less than weight collector from 2 bags with 168
g. Besides, the Figure 1.0 showed that the number of bags was directly proportional
to the efficiency of collection dust. These efficiencies were affected by the number of
the baghouse filter, where it can collect or trapped more dust directly of the process.
Therefore, the efficiency of collection also affected by the dust characteristics, filter
characteristic, the accumulation of dust load on the filter bag and filter wind speed. As
mention before, one of the type dust characteristics was dust size where it directly
affected the collection efficiency. For example, dust size with more than 1μm, can be
collected at least 9.5% in general, while for less than 1μm, about 0.2-0.4 μm can be
collected as the minimum of size. The clean filter or dust filter there is no different for
the efficiency collection. This is because the particle size in range were at low value
area. Furthermore, the dust also carried the electrostatic charge that directly effect the
efficiency of the collection. The example of the filter characterizes was type of media
filter such as woven fabric that have effective trapped for dust collection. For the
accumulation of dust load was effective when the bag filter was used the woven filter.
This is because the filter act as the supporter for the process collection. However, the
main role of the accumulation of dust load on the filter layer. In this case, main factor
that contribute to the efficiency collection was effect of the filtration velocity on the dust
removal. The velocity was significant used for woven and smaller pore filtration that
created the high porosity of the dust layer. Usually, the filtration velocity mainly
inversely proportional to the pressure.
